I can only imagine what NASCAR would look like today had they not been a bunch of reactionary fools and banned the Cammer.

The Hemi, Cammer, and Mark II all on the same track would have been crazy.

Was focusing on ones aimed for production-ish cars.

That Hemi is literally The Goofiest. Giant exposed timing pulleys, exposed belt...

But I will say this, the combustion chamber looks remarkably modern for a 90 year old design.

Exactly. People don’t get this. OHC engines that are V’s are super wide.

Might be manually adjusted valves as well as the four carbs. You know, for those days you feel like telling your race mechanic to GTFAC. Also I need a better picture of it for reasons.

yeah, the 4V/cylinder setup pretty much leads you to the pentroof design which is the norm today. though the Duesy chamber has no squish area like a modern engine, but with the low compression for the sludge called gasoline back then it wasn’t a big deal.

it was a proof of concept prototype based on the pushrod Hemi. had they been able to go forward with it I’m sure they’d have designed an integrated front cover.

Or, in a fit of Moparity, they might have made an outer sheet metal cover that screwed in place into the water pump. With an embossed recess and a sticker of a cartoon bicep with two cam sprockets and DUAL CAM POWER.

I’m sure it is, it looks like a bigger Cosworth DFV. Edit: read some more on it, looks like it’s a special kind of madness, with the adjuster shim between the valve and the cam follower, so it’d all have to come apart to set clearances. Yeesh.

Which would have been adjusted by a 5lb sledge hammer at the factory, and restorers today would be having fits getting the dents just right.
