Last night was weird.

I was heading some from work, and I see lots of cop cars. I slow down to 5kph over (80kph zone), farther down the road I see more but they have their spot lights on. Still doing 85 one pulled me over, great that cop must be desperate to pull me over doing 5 over. I pull over, shut off my car, turn on my map light, and open my window.

Cop walk up and asked how I’m doing this night, and asks why I’m on the roads so late at night (11:15pm). I tell him I just finished work and am heading home. Then he asks me if I’ve seen a car in the wood’s off the road. I say “no sir”. He tells me someone reported seeing a car go off the road, and they are trying to find it. Then he tells me thanks for your help, have a good night & drive safe.

I wouldn’t be surprised if 21 year old who crashed, might have left the car/scene because he might have had a few drinks and was looking to avoid a DUI... which is actually legally the smart thing to do... even police do that when they get caught drinking and driving.

Then he can argue for a reduced fine/points for the ‘failing to report’ and careless driving charge by saying he did something like spilling coffee on himself and then left the scene because he panicked and then apologize profusely to the judge.

Clever... I hope I never have to remember that one...

On the “failing to report” part, wouldn’t be surprised if he got off. Don’t you have something like 24 hours to report it? If he crashed late last night, and they’ve already found it and him, that seems like a hard charge to make stick.
