Both you and your car are made of the same things; atomic elements that formed in the cores of exploding stars and the midst of supernovae. Both you and your car are complex machines made of smaller, simpler complex machines. Both you and your car consume and store large hydrocarbon chains to create heat and energy. Both you and your car use fluids to sustain systems critical to operation.
Despite all these similarities, you’ll still die if you try to drink gasoline, and your engine will be destroyed if you try to put hamburgers in it.

The proper location to store your owners manual in a 2001 Jaguar XJ8 is in the trunk, not the glove compartment. There’s even an elastic strap for it:
There’s a special compartment under the hood for holding a factory toolkit:
But as far as I can tell, these were never included with US market cars. It would be such a waste of money, but I’m determined to purchase a set at some point.

Everyone knows emissions and safety regulations got tougher and tougher in the US in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. It would appear that 1969 was the last year that car companies could easily pass these inspections with very minimal adjustments to their designs. 1969 cars are also protected from later, more restrictive regulations.
It would seem that some of the more devious people at places like Ferrari and Lamborgini got a really great idea. “Since cars produced before 1970 don’t have to bother with all those fiddly emissions laws,” you can almost hear them say in the board rooms, “let’s just stamp ‘Made in 1969’ plates on all our new cars!”
Apparently they did exactly that, and it took the customs people about a year and a
half to catch on. To this day, apparently, people trying to bring in certain makes’
1969 models have the serial number of the car cross-checked by customs. If the number is
below a certain threshold, in you go. Above, and you have to conform to later, more
stringent rules.

The Niva has a brake proportioning valve in the rear to increase rear bias when you add load. It accomplishes this by having a rod running to the axle that pushes a lever as the suspension compresses.
It also has a device under the hood that is called a “rough road sensor”. I was about to say I have no idea what it’s for but I just googled it for shits and apparently it’s an accelerometer that tells the ecu to ignore the knock sensor when traveling on rough terrain, and in other Ladas it has some ABS function as well. I’ve never found ANY useful info about it until now.

Since others posted about owners manual spots it reminded me of this. The Jeep Libert(KJ) had a special spot in the glovebox for one that came in a canvas bag.
Also when rebuilding a Ford 8.8 rear end and using new gears a 28 shim will normally do the trick.(this is with the shims that are labeled, I cannot remember the decimal placement).

90's Hondas that have manual transmission have to use the Honda brand transmission oil. Because they were originally designed to run on engine oil. However, in the late 90s/early 00's oil companies started removing additives from the oil (nitrate I believe was one of the critical ones). And without the additives the transmissions would wear significantly faster. So that’s when Honda came out with their own MTF that’s really engine oil with additives.
(You could still buy engine oil and put in additives, but the Honda MTF isn’t expensive when you consider how infrequently you change MTF)

This is a real situation that I encountered. I work for a private company contracted by the state. I have nothing to do with the city of Rock Hill. We showed her that the water had contamination. We let her smell the water, which smelled like gasoline. Still, we were paid of by the city, and her water was fine. The same day I called animal control about a Pit Bull farm.
Another fun fact about Rock Hill, that is the city where I decided it was time for a CWP.

The new Pontiac GTOs have the same hub and wheel stud specs as a BMW, so you can bolt almost any M wheels on them. GTOs do look good with M6 wheels on them.
Back in the day (2004-2007ish) people used to use Porsche studs on GTOs, because the factory ones tend to break on the drag strip.
The 3.8 V6 and 2.slow turbo Gen Coupes have different rear differentials.
That’s all I can remember now, but I know more. Need more caffeine!

The tool kit that came with the Niva was more complete. Not only was it a basic set of wrenches and screwdrivers, it also had tools for fixing a flat tire... not just changing the tire, but actually removing the tire from the wheel and patching it.

The Niva’s new transmission does this. I was so confused at first, and thought something was broken, cause the old one didn’t, but I eventually figured it out. So I went back to the old trans and the shifter did in fact push in on that one too. So now I’m thinking the old transmission was just much more broken than I knew it was.

This is awesome! I feel having designated spaces in the car for things like these help ensure owners won’t just discard them. Better for future owners :)
I also love when it looks like a manufacturer has really considered how the car will be used. Rather than just creating a gaping trunk and being done with it.
