Kinja'd!!!

So I built a rosewood Stratocaster to keep it company.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Started off as a body from a guy in Brasil and a bunch of genuine fender parts.

Kinja'd!!!

It tips the scales at a hefty 11.8 pounds. Rosewood is awfully dense but nice to work with.

Noice. Very pretty duo you have there.

Gorgeous! I’m jealous of your skills. If I had the time and ability, everything in my life would be made out of olive wood.

Nice guitars! The rosewood is beautiful. The fretboard on my Les Paul is rosewood, but the body is mahogany.

Sexy!

You just using a raw/waxed finish or is that satin clear coat?

Thank you. I still have a bunch of parts left from a junk guitar that I’ve been meaning to make a body for. Soon...

Really digging both of those. Have you built any others?

What kind of body shape were you thinking?

This is an awesome pair!

I recently saw a rosewood Jaguar (I believe..maybe it was a Jazzmaster) over on the offset guitar forums that just looked amazing. I’ve always wanted a walnut-ish Mustang.

Firstly... Absolutely stunning work, congratulations. How much does it weigh?

Secondly... ‘from a guy in Brasil’

Is it Brazilian rosewood? Did you get any documentation? I had a guitar confiscated (eventually returned) when travelling due to a Brazilian fretboard. I think it’s eased up a little in the last couple of years but be careful with it...

Those are beautiful, I should really start playing more so I can maybe justify buying something like this.

It weighs 11.8 pounds before final sanding and lacquer finish. Bought it off of ebay. I’m guessing Brazilian rosewood since it came from Brasil. And it sure looks and feels like it too. It made it through customs just fine... I’m keeping the shipping documents just in case...

A local dealer that has a ton of custom shop stuff supposedly ordered the very first rosewood Jaguar. I believe it.

Sorry if I sound all doom and gloom but be careful, BR is tightly controlled. Look into getting a CITES passport for it if it is Brazilian, especially if you intend to travel with it.

That’s pretty weighty for a strat, but I bet it sounds gorgeous. Would love to try one sometime.

Well, the neck I will be working with is sort of like a Jackson but with a little bump out on the high side. Probably going to modify the neck to be 4 tuners on the low side and 2 on the high side. I’m thinking a flat top semi hollow with the generic humbucker and fender style single coil from the donor guitar. Perhaps a modern/edgy take on an offset body like a Firebird or Jazzmaster.

That sounds really nice; eventually I’d like to get a semi-hollow guitar as well, although whether I’d want a flat, Thinline Telecaster style of body or a classic archtop like the Gibson ES.
