Youguys are pretty bad at
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Did a quick search yesterday for suitable swap candidates and found this.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
This would cut the work in about half compared to starting with an I6 as I expected I’d have to initially. Since it is a sport it already has the up-rated suspension and various bits of “M” trim I wouldn’t have to transfer over. In fact, depending on how damaged the engine is I stand a decent chance of coming out of this with TWO working 540s (though I don’t expect I’d put in the work to auto swap my current ratty shell). Not a huge fan of the grey interior and I’d miss my sport seats, but everything looks really clean in the pictures. It’s been up there for some time so I bet the seller is willing to make a deal just to get it out of the way.
Also it’s not really a salvage title, there are quite a few people who don’t seem to know the difference between “not working” and “salvage title”. The previous owner of my 540i manual made this mistake as well which is the main reason she didn’t have people lining up to buy a “running” manual v8 E39 for under $2k.

Talked to him, guy is using an OG point and shoot that has no idea what year it is. To be fair, I believe him because of the 2016 tags.

Understandable. I wouldn’t know how to change the date either. Anything with buttons and electricity is just too complex.

Trolling? I’m not much of a fisherman. Also, all of my posting to oppo happens via telegraph. Because that is the most complex new fangled electrical system I can understand.

Do it! Swapping the seats and interior is a piece of cake in the E39 (done it myself). Changing the front suspension and steering rack from i6 to V8 is a while different task though.

Yes. Do this. Craigslist WANTS you to do this. You MUST do this.

Well my interior isn’t great (this one appears better condition) and I’d assume the wagon and sedan have a few subtle differences!

I find no faults in this logic

Is the M suspension really that much better than throwing some nice aftermarket shocks in? Also on that note I need to do mine (02 540iT) soon, was going to use bilstein sport/B6s, sounds like the ride is only a little harsher than stock?

Don’t have a whole lot of experience with aftermarket parts on the platform, but I’ve been impressed with the sport suspension on mine. For this car I’ve been taking a very “don’t fix what isn’t broken” attitude, and my current shocks are still well damped and not leaking. With that in mind, I’d love a set of bilsteins, but it’s hard to pass on factory sport shocks for the low price of $0.
Then again, comfort is pretty important for me here, I have other cars for play and I’ve never felt that the stock suspension was holding me back in the driving I do. Wish it would wheel hop a little less during burn outs though!

I’m torn, this is our roadtrip car but I need to do suspension refresh soon. The price is not much different...

As a serial modder, my answer is always going to be to upgrade parts during service and refresh. If I was going to refresh suspension on mine I’d probably go with Bilstein. However I’m not one to needlessly change things and in my specific case my stock stuff is still in good shape and does not require attention.
