(And E92Matt for reminding me about them)
https://www.japaneseclassics.com/vehicle/1991-suzuki-carry-4wd/
Advantages the above vehicle has over my Tractor: Heater. Glass side windows that roll down instead of plastic flaps. Two seats. Hauling capability without hooking up a trailer. (theoretical) Ability to exceed 20MPH. Suspension on the wheels.
Advantages tractor has: Twice (and a bit) the displacement, three times the torque, (similar horsepower probably, but is a a 12-valve 3-cylinder... diesel) Better stereo. More ground clearance. 3pt hitch and 540RPM PTO. Remote hydraulics. Power steering. Front and rear differential locks. Three-range 4-speed with shuttle-shift. Three years newer.
I still want that Carry though. Would be great for hauling stuff around the fields, and cheaper than a new 4-wheeler...

Hehe, I do what I can. The Suzuki is perfect for tooling around in the fields. Why not have both? Don’t compare apples to oranges. You said it would be cheaper than a 4-wheeler, so compare to that! The tractor would serve its’ purpose and Carry would serve its’ own purpose. See how I worked that out for you?
And don’t feel bad. I now have a sudden, strong urge for a Y32/33 Nissan Gloria.
VonBootWilly - Likes Toyota, but it's still complicated.

I drove one of these on public roads. There should be a redline on the speedometer around 100km/h.
But as a field utility vehicle, it would be great. The guy I borrowed it from tried to commute on a 4-lane highway with it. Needless to say it didn’t go well, at least trying to maintain the speed limit anyway.

I sent this to my buddy a few days ago. It’s a rabbit hole when you remember they (Japanese Classics) exist...

They’re great little machines. I really love the early ones.
I wish that place would bring over older cars like that, but I guess more recent classics are what’s hot. And, it’s actually not difficult to import a car from Japan yourself.

Given that we’re talking about kei trucks here, I’m not sure it’s so much “what’s hot”, as it is “what still exists”. While there are still examples here and there, they were initially produced to be dispoable, utilitarian vehiciles. As such, the vast majority were left to rust away, or were scrapped. I’d love to have a L40 van for the weird vision of the future from the 60s, but even the one in the Wikipedia picture is a rusty husk of a car.

Yeah, and Japan always encouraged getting rid of old cars. But, they’re out there. I’ve imported a Mazda R360, and a Subaru R2. Those weren’t that difficult to find. It is nice that they’ve finally gotten around to rescuing what’s left over there. I love that symmetrical L40 van. I don’t know if they built that many of those to begin with.

Where are you currently located? I’ve got to import a car into Canada in a year and a bit. If you’re Canadian, I’d love to have some guidance on what I need to do.

I’m actually in California. I don’t know how different Canadian rules are, but I’d certainly like to help any way I can. I know you guys can bring them over 10 years sooner than us.

Do you want my less good Honda Beat? It needs a little bodywork, and is missing a few bits I needed for the other one, but I’m willing to let it go for cheap.

I would love a Honda Beat, but I have a couple projects now already, so I shouldn’t add to the stable. How long have you had them? They’re such fun cars.

I’ve had the one for about a year now. It runs great, but the body and paint are a little rough. Bodywork to pass shaken would have been a little much, so I went and grabbed another one that was in much better condition.
