Inspired by Miss Mercedes recent acquisition of Phil I have come up with a bit of a game. Lets say that you have to replace your car today but you have to do so with its direct descendant. How do you configure it?
The car must be the direct new equivalent to your current car but not necessarily the same trim level (i.e if you had an Impreza you have to take a 2017 Impreza but it could be a WRX or STi if you choose). If the model of your car is now discontinued you should pick the car of the same type from the manufacturer (i.e small hatchback if your car is a small hatchback).
I’ll go first. I have a 2004 Mini Cooper R50. If I were to replace it with this:
F56 Cooper S, Chili Red, White roof and stripes, JCW aero kit. It would need some white wheels though.
What would you do?

But the fiesta st has no descendent, so I guess focus RS is the closest thing. I’ll have it in blue please.
Gib now!

I guess you get a Mirage. It is really disappointing how far Mitsubishi has fallen.

So 17 4Runner TRD Pro. preferably with that awesome tan color and a light grey interior.
I don’t know if those are options you can get but I sure hope so.

For my DD Mariner I’d take an Escape Titanium with the 2.0 ecoboost. For my Camaro I’d take a nice 2SS in Hyper Blue metallic since I couldn’t really spring for the ZL1.

H’mm. (checks website)
I could have a:
Space Star (same as a Mirage, but legal issues over that name)
ASX
Lancer
Outlander (diesel or PHEV)
L200
Pajero
Sadly, none appeal!

The closest living descendant* to the Prelude is the Accord coupe. So I’d get an HFP Accord with a stick in San Marino Red, which was a Prelude color back in the day.
*Officially in Japan, the DC5 Integra (a.k.a. the Acura RSX) was the direct replacement for both the Prelude and the DC2 Integra. The Accord coupe served more or less as the Prelude’s replacement in the North American market.

I’d replace my old F150 with a Raptor, easy. The E46 wagon, I guess I’d have to go with an F30 wagon, though it’s a much bigger car and I don’t really want any BMW built after mine.

I’m sort of in the same situation with my S40. I suppose you could argue the current V40 is the successor, but Volvo doesn’t sell that in the US.
I guess if you wanted to, you could say that the S40 shared a platform with the Mitsubishi Carisma (not sold in the States), which was sort of replaced by the Lancer. I really wouldn’t want a Lancer, but let me configure one:
OK turns out this is impossible since the optional packages don’t actually tell you what is in them. The details section just lists the name of the package again.
So in any event, apparently I’m getting it in silver because the color choices suck, and I’m getting the 2.4L engine with AWD and CVT because choices are very limited.

Acura Integra- So I guess a ILX. With the premium package which has leather sport seats, good audio system, and the infotainment. Accessories, Spare tire and jack $400 and wheel locks $50.
Total is $30,415

Well, let’s see. There *is* a Benz E-class I could configure, but there’s more fun to be had with the new Conti.
Looks like Jade Green exterior, Jade Gray interior, 3.twinturb-0 V6, AWD (Reserve 300A package), and that’s about it. Sixty grand, one seriously nice car. The LED fancypants Lincoln logo headlights are part of the “Luxury package” which is $5k for fancypants headlights and PREMYUM SOUNDZ. Unconvinced, at least partly because the ordinary lights look pretty good.
The Ranchero and Rover are pretty much orphans at this point.
There’s also the “rear seat” pimp-ed out option, which for $4300 puts extra A/C in the rear seats, gives power everything, adds rear moonroof, heating, cooling... really a fuckton of rear seat swag for not that much considering.

A 2017 Lexus GS F in Atomic Silver, Circuit Red Leather, and nearly every option available for a total of $89,383. For reference, my car cost 2.8% of that.
If want other cars I’ve driven a lot, here’s the replacement for a 2001 Corolla:
Almost $27k for that, SMH.
Or this brownish over brownish Odyssey for $53k.

Pontiac Fiero... where does that leave me? Mid engine GM? Nada. Sporty 2-seater? I’m drawing a blank besides the Vette I suppose.
And I would not get the latest generation Acura MDX to replace my 2007. I’d be looking elsewhere. The new ones look like turds.
And my wifes Monte Carlo.. again, Chevy (or even GM at large) does not make a full size Coupe anymore.
I don’t like this game.

Am I buying it with my own money, or play money?
My own I probably just buy another Ecoboost and spec it the same. Maybe switch to Lightning Blue and add the performance pack, but I like the non-PP interior and I like my silver.
If it’s not my money, I’m getting a GT350 in Avalanche Grey with Lightning Blue Stripes and the Electronics package

Let’s see. The old truck is a Mazda which they don’t make any longer. It’s the twin to the Ranger, which Ford doesn’t make any more (for the U.S. market). So that leaves me with what?
Fine. Let’s do the WRX. There is a successor, but it isn’t a hatchback and I don’t want it. Perhaps an Outback XT? They don’t make those either.
Yeah, I don’t like this game either.

The S3 is a 2016 and they have not changed much for 2017 except for the, facia which I don’t care for and virtual cockpit, which I don’t care about. So I’ll do the M3. Competition package, Amaro brown extended leather, led lights, manual, Yas Marina Blue.

I would not pay $23,015 for a Honda Civic without the top tier motor but the Si doesn’t exist yet. Thankfully a six speed manual and Rallye Red is available for a sedan. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is the first time you can get a true red on a non Si sedan since the early 90s. A black out grill isn’t available but interior illumination and those handy door ding stoppers are.

Well, since they don’t make my car anymore I went with 2 of its Cousins. We’ll start off with it’s distant-er cousin.
E63S Wagon, all the trimmings. Only $134k..........
Other option would have to be a Charger SRT:$60k, little more reasonable.
