Combined these two make about 65 horsepower... tops. I reckon it’s time to try this “slow car fast” thing I keep hearing about.

It depends on the year and what engine. The later Chevy Metros had an optional 79HP SOHC 16V 4cyl engine.

IIRC the passenger rear quarter panel has a sizeable dent in it. So no.

Nope. The left side rocker has a rust hole in it, the right side is a bit smashed, and the interior is missing some of the panels and the passenger side carpet. Not that I’m complaining, I paid $140 for a running driving car. Much to my surprise, it even has working AC!
The plan is to give it a Viking funeral by rallycrossing it to death. The question is what happens first: a major mechanical failure, or the front lower A-arm mounts breaking in half (they are also very rusty).

See, if you had sprung for a four cylinder Metro you could have had a whopping 75hp between the two.

When this one is done, if I find a 4-banger Metro for $140, I’ll buy it.

I replaced a head on a 3-cylinder Metro for a friend once. I felt like I was building a model kit. All the parts were so little and easy to work on.

Yep. Even the entire trans was small enough to simply bench pressed into place. It’s such a departure working on something so small and light. I’m used to working on vehicles that weigh over two tons, not less than one ton. Jacking my other vehicles up is work, but this thing is a breeze.

Fun fact: the Metro was the last vehicle sold in the U.S. with throttle body injection.

That is a fun fact! I was perusing the factory service manual earlier today, was surprised to read it had TBI.

Yes, but not without a bit of drama. We were able to drive it under its own power in time to get XJDano to the airport. It wasn’t looking good at one point.

Did they sell sedans with the 3-cylinder? Or were those 4-cylinders only? The service manual said (at least for ‘98) that the 4-cylinder had MPFI.

We found a nut on the old transmission that would work. We got it all buttoned up, and it wouldn’t shift into neutral or 2nd, 4th, and reverse. Had to jack it back up, drain the gear oil back out of it, pull the linkage partially back apart, and flip a piece of it over.
