Glorious post-90's beige-ness, barn-style rear doors, heated cloth seats, and more than enough go-anywhere prowess for me. I have to acknowledge that a Land Cruiser is a superior vehicle, but when !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! gets you a Trooper with 54,000 miles or a Land Cruiser with 254,000, I think my money would actually go to the Isuzu. Though if this one were to take to the trails, those running boards would have to go.

i had one of those for a few weeks last year. its a good car, i had the diesel (cant remember the size of the engine) but i turned the boost up and the fuel..... was a shit ton more fun but i went a little over board and killed the engine.
its comfortable and capable of doing most things off road that a “normal” person would want to do. 11/10 would own again (just make sure the sunroof seals properly as mine would give me a shower while turning left

Car sold badged as an Acura here in US America as well. Only concern I’d have would be parts. Isuzu abandoned our passenger car market ages ago.

It being tall and narrow always made it look very wobbly and roll-overy

My uncle had one like this, ran for well over 200k even though the interior looked as it it had been eaten by ill tempered squirrels. They are surprisingly capable, if slow.

Somehow I still have more faith in the Cruiser making it to 454,000 than the Trooper making it to 254,000. Nothing at all against the Trooper, Cruisers are just so stout. Not to mention parts availability and a worldwide community, making it easier to find tutorials and tips for anything you need or want to do.

Fair enough. The Trooper is pretty good, but the Cruiser is the last word in longevity, with possibly the exception of an 80's diesel Volvo or Benz.

No... you probably don’t really want it.
It’s an orphaned brand with an orphaned engine and the parts/service will probably be expensive.
And I’ve heard these are great off road, but do have the odd issues... more so than you would with a Toyota.

Watch for underbody rust. A coworker of mine had one that looked clean as could be up top. Underneath it was so rusty that a hard turn could’ve broken the body off its mounts.

I drive a ‘91 Alfa. This old truck doesn’t scare me.

I think, but am not positive on this, that you can get Isuzu parts and service at GM dealers. Although for something of this age you probably wouldn’t be taking it to a dealer.

These are kinda nice in their own way. I considered one back when I was doing the winter SUV thing instead of one car year round. The torque-on-demand awd works pretty nicely and they often have a rear LSD as well. There’s a build sticker in the engine bay that lists the option codes. G80 is the LSD.

You can get parts/service at a GM dealer for the many Isuzus that were rebadged GM vehicles, but I’m not so sure about Isuzu only stuff like these Troopers.

Just looking at random parts categories on RockAuto for a 2002 Trooper, there seems to be plenty of stuff available in many different areas of the vehicle. It’s a relatively common vehicle even if it is an orphan brand. I wouldn’t be worried about say, taking it to an indy mechanic and them being able to work on it and find parts for it.

You’re probably right. It’s just something to consider.
