They’re challenging, if a bit formulaic, but I enjoy them.

a) yes, it is wrong
b) The problem is likely that your setup isn’t crap enough. Crappy 8 bit graphics seem less crappy on crappy old TVs that are too fuzzy to show how crappy the graphics are. It will still be crap, but it will be appropriately crap.

I don’t particularly enjoy them... but I can acknowledge that they’re good, just in a genre I don’t enjoy. I eventually found punishingly difficult games in genres I do like, partially inspired by my experience playing them. It is like the rough equivalent of going wheeling and realizing that you want to SCCA instead.

I don’t like 8 bit games at all.
8-bit and earlier and early 3d games (like 90s-2004) look terrible to me. Any sprite games from the 16-bit and later eras look great and have aged well.
