I did a pretty darn good job. Still learning the seasoning tricks. It’s a bit harder when cooking on an electric stove top and a stainless steel pan.

Hahah how did you know? I bought 4 of these New York Strips for $15. With the garlic bread and butter to cook with I might have spent $5 a meal. Much cheaper then eating out.

Seasoning should be done right before cooking, or at least 40 minutes. And use a coarse salt like kosher, not table salt. If I pan sear I throw some thyme at the end and baste butter like no tomorrow, then rest it.

I threw a chunk of butter in the pan and brought it to a simmer, then seasoned the steaks with all purpose seasoning salt and pepper(because it’s what I have at college lol) and then let the steaks cook in the butter until they looked cooked.

#college. I have a cast iron pan in the wedding gifts from the first wedding shower for the fiancé and my parents have a HUGE set of Lodge Gear for camping and a skillet or two for home cooking.

I start with corn or rice bran oil, as I didn’t want to smoke up the whole house. Butter’s smoke point is way too low.

That’s pretty much all I have when living in an apartment... can’t run gas lines. I miss Hong Kong where everyone uses Towngas or LPG.

All that matters with steak is that you don’t over cook it. I prefer my steak still mooing. A nice red and slightly cool in the center is perfect to me! The best steak I’ve made was on a camp fire. Turned out perfect somehow and was the best meal to enjoy during a torrential downpour. Also helps to cook it in bacon grease.

You don’t need a lot of seasoning, you don’t need a grill. This is the only way to cook a steak.

nice, not sure what I’d do without my cast iron...only problem is im constantly setting off fire alarms in my 800 sq ft apartment...airflow management is a real thing that I’ve studied, in my apartment, I think I’ve got it down. (it involves a fan on a stool pointed directly up at the fire alarm)

My steaks are about 1/3 that thickness haha. If I had some high quality steaks though and a full kitchen that looks amazing.

We have that problem here too. When we cooked bacon and eggs and biscuits before the last game we set off the fire alarm quite a few times.

It’s the oil, smoke point too low. I fry stuff in my 600 sq ft apartment and never set it off.

It really is. I was leary at first, but turned out to be better than the high-end steak places around here. I had never used butter on a steak before. It’s the only way I’ll cook them now. I gave up on grilling.

frying is different, I usually will just sear a steak and if it gets too smokey throw it in the oven for a min or two.

Perfect video for that. Yup, open roaring fire and shitty pan somehow got a nice crisp outside and perfectly cooked inside. Not to mention the rain that was falling on it while cooking.

I generally don’t mess with the herbs and garlic, but follow most of this. Small bit of salt & pepper to season the steak. Olive oil & butter in the pan. Flip a few times. Done.
