Just wanted to thank all the folks who made suggestions on my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . My son and I had a great time and I really did use %90 of your advice and that’s like %90 more internet advice than I typically use! Bonus drone shot (phantom 3 pro) of the site. Looks kinda boring but a big pond’s off to the right and the older scouts made a hunted trail in the woods directly behind our camp. All the kids ran around like crazy for 3 days and the parents got along great. All in all a great success.

How many kids were there? How many parents? Soooo many cars!
My scout camps were just the scouts and the two leaders. Admittedly though our troupe had at most I think eight scouts in it, so that could affect things quite a bit.

50+ kids probably 80-100 people any given moment. It was not a very remote location so mom/siblings came and went throughout each day. That line of cars went around the corner another 10 + deep!

I don’t see a drone in this shot. Maybe if you got closer?

No, it doesn’t look too remote. One camp we went to, we had to carry all the gear (including the kitchen) almost a mile into the site after a half-hour of gravel roads and the turkey trail we were on became too much for my scoutmaster’s wife’s minivan. And by two much I mean we forded not a small pond... They kept talking about setting is up somewhere and giving us a meeting point some distance away to be at in a few days time, but much to our despair that trip never happened. I think they may have run into parental consent issues there, but definitely not from mine.

Stayed really far away 150 foot elevation and only skirted the edges of the camp. All the parents seemed cool with it but sure panic would have ensued if I did any low flying. In that case may have literally had my drone shot this is NC after all:)

This means nothing to me... American Scout ranks have always perplexed me. I Canada, a Scout’s a Scout, no matter the experience. If something more complex was being planned, we were always under the impression that the more experienced would be looking out for the less experienced, although the leaders definitely made sure they weren’t pushing anyone too far beyond their comfort zone.

This is mostly true in america too except this was a “family camping experience” so it’s the exception. More of a welcome to the pack/bring a friend/family/ person you met at the corner store event. Sort of a recruitment tool basically.

Cub Scouts starts in first grade. The ranks are Tiger, Wolf, Bear, then two years at Webelo. They transition to Boy Scouts after that.
While in Cub Scouts, everything is led by the parents. Boy Scout troops are led by the older boys with guidance from the Scoutmaster. This is when the boys get away from car camping and start camping in more remote locations.

Boy scout camping is entirely different from camping I am used to with friends. It is crazy how much gear some troops will bring. I have gone along before with a group and they basically brought a whole kitchen. Like ovens, sinks, lots of tables, and every tool imagineable. We even had heaters and they cooked an entire turkey in a garbage can. It was like 25 degrees (F) at night and somehow we were quite comfortable the whole time. So all of that gear worked out well but it seemed ridiculous to me who normally just goes with whatever can fit in my backpack.

If only I knew how to use the camera properly.. I’m a neub to photography and this camera has way more setting than I’ve ever used. The 4 k video looks even better.

Yes, that’s great and all, but what knife did you carry?

Nothing special. Same knife I’ve carried for about 14 years. Gerber quick draw.
