"Honeybunchesofgoats" (honeybunche0fgoats)

So I was in traffic behind a Fifth Gen Mustang with a California Special package today. The guy driving rolled down his window to thank me when I let him in, which earns an awesome mark in my book.
Anyway, when he braked, the center brake light had a cut out that illuminated GT/CS. I can’t decide if I love it or hate it, but it does seem like it wouldn’t necessarily pass regulations if it was factory, but Google fails me. It was certainly the coolest way to show a model designation that I’ve seen.

I guess it was this. Apparently you can buy decals for your brakelight. I’m sort of surprised that I learned of this from such a G rated example.

The fact that the driver thanked you will never make up for the loves he/she will alter at the next C&C

I’m not going to lie, my first thought was “he was so nice to thank me that I feel bad for thinking that it’s safer to have a Mustang in front of me rather than next to me.”

Holy shit, I was about to make fun of their spelling because I thought that brake light said, “Your Next”

Is there really a Cronic dealer? Interesting.

Has to be aftermarket. A nice Mustang driver would never come from the factory.

That’s amazing. I now want a Mustang just so I can do that.

Ford has offered a California Special package for some time - I work with a lady who has a red one just like that.

The GT/CS was indeed factory starting in 2006, but he’s added some of his own extras. The wheels and side decal are OEM.

But for real it a GT/CS (California Special) offered by Ford which I have seen in Georgia and Tennessee so it’s not really that special for California.

Thanks for the information. The photo was a random one off of Google, but he did have the same side decal. I assumed that had to be stock since it was the same as the car I saw in traffic.

NP, I actually remembered reading something about it when it came out. I think they were more common after the facelift, but I see pre-facelift GT/CS’s around now and then. As an aside, I know Mustangs are popular everywhere, but you can’t throw a rock in San Antonio without hitting one. I think it is a combination of the weather and it being a popular car with the large 18-25 military population here.

I knew they existed, but this was the first I had ever seen in person. It looked really nice in person.

I’ve always liked the the way look. More aggressive then a GT of that gen. Theres also a lot more surface area up front to eat crowds with.

It was actually the first I’ve seen in person. It actually looked really nice. I’ve gotten so used to the sixth gens everywhere that fifth gens have started looking a little outdated, but this one still looked pretty great.

My dad had a black 08 California Special manual with a Whipple Supercharger that put 535 HP to the wheels. That car was insanely fun to drive.

Yeah the fifth gen really depends on which accessories/wheels it has. The base V6 ones are starting to look pretty tired, but a GT with louvers in a bright color and maybe a hood scoop or retro wheels still looks pretty good. I haven’t heard sales numbers on the 6th gen yet but it has to be pretty good. You’re right they are everywhere.

The center brake light cut out you speak of is aftermarket.
The hood and rear quarter window louvers on the car pictured are aftermarket as well.
I added a GT/CS front bumper to mine...
