Sitting next to soccer grandma. She keeps swearing under her voice. It’s a game for 8 and 9 year olds.

All three of our boys play soccer, and I have been to games where the parents of 11 and 14 year olds are some of the meanest, rudest, ugliest people you can imagine. It’s rec sports, for God’s sake. Let the kids play, cheer when they score, but stay the hell out of it.

I’ve been researching about adult influence in children’s play-sports for a couple of months now, in Uruguay, where football/soccer is THE number one sport for adults and children alike.
Some parents keep to themselves but there’s always someone with frustrations, pouring it all over the kids, and you only need a couple of them to taint the experience. Repeat that by 3000 matches a weekend, country-wide, and you have some nice schooling on those kids...

I was a soccer official for 10 years (started when I was 14). the U-10 to U-12 parents were the worst. The very last game i ever worked was a U-10 game where I had to eject a parent for giving me the finger during the game.

My little brother plays for a youth team so i go to matches somewhat regularly. Never once seen a player sent off, but parents being sent of the sidelines for bad behaviour is a regular occurence...

IT’S CALLED FOOTBALL *European master race intensifies*
Jk lol. Australians call it soccer too. Or sometimes European Football as a way of appeasing our sophisticated overlords

I too did some time as a rec league ref, starting in middle school. As I recall a solid third of the training was just about how to deal with psycho parents and coaches. Perfectly normal looking moms and dads screaming OFFSIDE!! at eight year olds playing bumblebee ball was an everyday occurrence. So surreal.
