“As the U.S. poises itself to launch an unprecedented retaliatory attack against Russia...” What?!?!
“The CIA will launch a massive cyber counter-attack due to State sponsored cyber-hacking” Whew, we’re not going to war... yet.

Why the hell do they announce these things? I’m no soldier, but I’m pretty sure the element of surprise is important in such matters.

Could be reverse psychology. I remember hearing a story that during the Falkland war a British news channel broadcasted that the Brits were going to attack a certain town. The soldiers defending the town then left to defend another one, thinking it was misinformation to keep them there and the Brits took it without a fight.
In all seriousness it’s probably something some Civil Affairs person said to sound good.

I do wonder about that, because I’d like to believe journalists are better than just spouting sensitive security information, but in this day and age no one seems to give a shit.

Our future POTUS set a new precedent on the handling of classified material, sooo... what difference at this point does it make?

It’s not like saying this gives them anything. I mean I guess they could watch harder for intrusion (which would be a positive anyway since it wastes resources), but it’s not likely that they’ve been purposefully ignoring known vulnerabilities and will now suddenly have the resources to seal them or go looking for new ones.

The government and democrats in general are REALLY pushing an anti-Russian agenda right now. It’s insane and like they are trying to purposfully restart the cold war.
All this fallout is all because of NATO and US policy since Bush as well. They just couldn’t stop antagonizing Russia, the Obama administration has been especially ridiculous in this regard.
I am politically unaffiliated and WONT be voting for Trump BTW. I likely am not going to vote for a president but will be voting since there are important ballot measures in Nevada this year.
I used to be a democrat until I realized how big of war hawks they are. I got into politics when Bush was in office and Iraq and wars then were considered by democrats like me as being a cardinal sin that must be avoided. Now democrats can’t so no to any war or international involvement, such as the wikileaks release on Clinton with Syria. Really it should be no surprise as Bill Clinton wasn’t exactly anti-war himself. Today there is no war or act of aggression that they don’t like. I was for Bernie Sanders in the primary but even he had some aggressive stances.
My dad used to say that democrats were also the war party ever since he was a child. Korea, Vietnam, and the various smaller actions like Afghanistan. The guy behind pushing congress to arm what became al qaida and the taliban? Charlie Wilson was a democrat. While ironically it was Nixon who ended the aggressive activity towards China. He always just said the republican social and anti-labor agenda was far worse which is why he voted Democrat even though he was a republican until Reagan (mostly due to union busting).
