If the idea was that a lightweight, low horsepower Japanese sports car would be great with an automatic transmission, then that idea can get fucked. A person who would buy such a thing should be banned from owning a car.
Take the fucking bus if you don’t understand why driving is fun.

I’m more scared of what’s underneath that bad paint job.

Because if they couldn’t sell them to people who like automatics, they couldn’t them afford to sell to people who like manuals and we’d never get anything fun. It’s not complicated.

I’ve just been shopping for a Toyobaru, and it’s amazed me to find that most of them seem to be autos. And that’s in NZ, where most people know how to drive stick.
I mean seriously - why would you? Maybe if you just wanted it for a vaguely sporting looking commuter, I guess, but there are miles better choices for that purpose.
Same logic applies here.

Dude, it’s a Nissan. Them not mating the right transmission is just how they do things. Look no further than the current Maxima, a “foor door sports car” utterly destroyed by the CVT it is saddled with.

You’ve got to think outside the box. Say you had to commute often in heavy traffic. A light, efficient sleek coupe that handles well makes a lot of sense. But getting it as a manual doesn’t.
I’m the biggest manual fanatic there is, but if I had a reason to drive every day in stop-start traffic, I’d have an auto. And I’m not sure I could afford 2 cars.

Why not? For all we know the original owner bought this car because they suffered some injury that prevented them from owning a car with a manual gearbox. Plus it’s not like Nissan spec’d softer suspension and removed the LSD like they do on the Miata Club.

Couldn’t agree more. I can’t currently afford two cars, my commute is stop and go traffic both ways, and I love having an automatic for it 90% of the time. I’ve done the same commute lots with standard, and it’s awful. I still want a weekend car that’s manual

ImmoralMinoriy,
TLDR: My FF auto Integra was my gateway to lightweight RWD fun.
I feel you missed a demographic: The naive enthusiast.
Once upon a time I believed my ‘94 AT Integra was the pinnacle of “sport” cars. At the time I have never driven stick or RWD. I only had my emotional attraction to the car.
Driving the Teg made me realize I prefer responsiveness more than HP. I found myself pushing the AT in 2nd & 3rd so that I may hear the engine open up.
Once I was fortunate enough to buy a new car I knew what I wanted. I wanted control, responsiveness, and smiles. I found the perfect car for me, and love rowing through the gears.
If I said fuck it and took the bus I would not be enjoying my car today.

I’d go as far as to say NA S-Chassis are not outright sports cars, I’d classify them as simply “coupes”. The power-to-weight ratio is not quite there for a true sports car.

People with leg problems deserve to be able to drive sports cars, too. I know enthusiasts who have had replacement hips, knees, and ankles (in one case all three), and it would be kinda fucked up if his only option was big ass Cadillacs.

When I bought my BRZ, I had trouble finding one with a stick because no one wanted the auto.
