Welp, I finally got to test out my new spark plugs today...and well it did not take them long to get fouled. It threw a code for misfire on cylinder 2, then a code for misfire on cylinder 3 a minute later. So, my problem wasn’t just fouled plugs...the fouled plugs are a result of the problem! The car is lasting longer between misfires with the new plugs, but give it time, they’ll fail hard too.

At least in better news today, my parents finally got around to fixing the electrical gremlins in the Envoy XL...so at least I have a vehicle to drive indefinitely until Tucker is figured out/goes to the smartville in the sky.

T&D vs evil is the best thing I’ve see this year.

So how much smoke, and what color is said smoke, is Tucker providing?

Only on startup...a lot of smoke... and white. No mixing of oil and coolant just yet either.

Ok, and how has the oil level been? How quickly are you going through it? I’m leaning towards warped head at this point, but it’s a close race with valve seals. You dumped oil, car got hot, aluminum no likey....

I’d start with valve cover gasket, as it should be cheap and easy, and you can see a lot of stuff in there to look for damage.

The more I think about it, the more I like valve seals as the culprit, actually. That explains the fouling, the pooling of oil when stopped in the cylinders, and driving rough, but also no mixing of coolant and oil. Of course, I’m not educated on that particular engine, but that’s what I’m thinking. All the symptoms fit, except the oil around the spark plugs, which is typically valve cover gasket related.

Well, actually, is it white, or is there a blueish tinge to it. black is gas, white is coolant, blue-ish is oil being burnt. If it’s like super really white, could be coolant, or just condensation, but I doubt that second part.

Did the problem start coinciding with your last gas fill-up?

The most common cause when smarts start doing what mine is doing is either burned valves, warped heads, and valve seals. Honestly, the spark plug check was really just confirmation of my issue. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the parts aren’t that cheap and it requires the engine to be dropped...the cost of these repairs exceed the value of the vehicle. Honestly? A used engine is actually cheaper than the cost to repair the head and/or valves...and warping is not even worth trying to fix.

All in all...it’s best for me to drive it for as long as I can, or just park it and drive my mum’s car until I can afford to replace Tucker...which would’ve been this week if it weren’t for work and all.

(interestingly enough, I might actually convert, so I may have been crying too soon)

Nah...it’s been a lifelong issue with Tucker. It’s been misfiring in the Winter since I first got it. Despite several dealer visits (under warranty) on the subject, they refused to do anything about it unless the misfires threw a code...it’s obvious it doesn’t throw a code until the cylinder is shut down by the computer, so that was bull. Cylinder shutdown doesn’t occur until it’s too late too.

I knew it was only a matter of time before the engine started misfiring in all weather conditions, the engine just needed a catalyst...and losing all of its oil is just the catalyst it needed. Silly fragile engine.
