"JR1" (type35bugatti)

It was on a whole different planet than my agricultural S10 (I still love it though). The rear height control worked, all the electrical components seemed to be in good shape, and the leather was so so soft. 9k for an 04 with 140,000 miles seemed to be pretty good I thought.
Anything you guys know about I should look out for? I am worried it wouldn’t be as DYI friendly as the S10 and the fact that it requires premium full is really annoying.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

They seem to have been labeled as a car of choice for people who can’t drive, at least by Oppo. Excellent trucks though. Several neighbors have or had them.

Buy one. But you shouldn’t buy that one. You should come to my dealership and buy a certified pre owned! That way all your possible problems will be covered!

You don’t actually have to put premium in it... it’s just a 2UZ and I’ve e been running normal gas in my “premium required” 1Uz for years. You might notice it acting funny after the first fill up but that’s just the computer adjusting. Other then that 4runner add ons will work with minor modifications. You won’t be able to do much to the power train but other then that it’s a nice Toyota. If I was in the market that would be the first SUV I would look at.

Seriously good Land Cruisers if you can stomach driving a mid 2000s mall crawler. Don’t know these terribly well, but being a Toyota of similar vintage as the Tundra that’s famous for rust, I’d be looking for rust under the back of it.

They are hard to find hard core parts for and the dash can crack down the middle I hear, does it have nav? Also the 470 should run fine on regular...at least I think so

The dash should be covered under warranty, 4Runner parts will fit with minor mods, the Nav is terrible in early through mid 2000 Lexus and Toyotas, avoiding that is a good call.

warranty, do you mean recall? there’s no warranty left on this guy. re: 4runner parts...yes but sometimes the mods are more than minor. Front and rear bumpers come to mind.

Yeah I meant recall. Was going to change it then got lazy. And yeah, front and rear bumpers work with some cutting

Premium is a killer. I kick my self every time I fill up because it costs an extra 8-9 bucks. At least where I live 91 is typically 70 cents more per gallon so when every one was jumping for joy at paying 1.80 for a gallon of gas I was still at 2.50.

and a little fiddling with the mounts, in either case, I suspect its moot for our friend.

I’m planning on getting one of these for my offf-road/overland use. Need to graduate first though. A trip to MOAB is in order.

It could be but we’ve had a ‘05 Tundra, have a ‘05 Sequoia, and have a ‘14 Tundra but we’ve never seen a problem. Being in California then Tennessee might be a part of that. We have had a first gen Tacoma about to fall in half though

I’ve always wanted too. I think a modified GX470 would be perfect.

Funny part is they are probably one of the most capable off road vehicles you can buy.

I might have to google the dash crack. You’re not the first to mention it. And if I did get one I would want Nav for the backup camera mostly

Off road style parts. Most other parts are the same or similar to any 4.7L 2UZ. The only different 2UZ is the 4runners. The oil pan is shorter then on everything else.

Really enjoyed it. The quality was top notch. It was just a short spin to see if I liked it. I’d need to have a more in depth test to see if it would be for me.
Problem is I can’t test the off-road capabilities

I’ve gotten 2 tickets in Sequoias with the 2UZ... One on the highway... It hangs just fine and it will get around 17-20 mpg highway depending on your load/speed

I wish they had a v6 turbo option because they would kill me on gas. I would buy one in good shape with a high mileage motor and swap in a Toyota diesel. I see these all over SF and I like them, but my crv gets good mileage. I have considered an RDX turbo for the future, but for sure in would rather have the slightly smaller land cruiser.

I love all the diesels in Japan, seems really dumb heavy trucks here don’t have them. Toyota has great diesels too, I think 25 mpg is possible in a diesel cruiser.

Eh at least it is good gas mileage. Too bad you can’t break the lease you could get a good deal on a Lexus. Does your service department ever have many GXs coming through it so problems?

I mean, 7 out of 15 cars in there were GXs at one point today, but it seemed like maintenance, not problems
