Kinja'd!!!

The last combustion engine lab session is just about to finish. Now we still need to grade the students and clean up the tools and lab.

Some of the students really surprised me with their skills this year, while others were a bit disappointing. Starting to take random parts of with random tools is never a good plan, kids!

I dont think you get the drive to do engine work properly until the use of your car depends on it (or your job for those who work as a tech/ mechanic). If its a random engine on a stand people will just dick about. We had a couple old vw 4 cylinders at my school and so many parts were lost or broken.

Yeah, though I noticed some found it genuinely interesting to learn how everything works.

We had that problem too last year, so we got 4 new engines to keep it interesting. Also it helps that the new ones are quite modern, so they actually learn something about direct injection and turbo charging.

Yeah it is good that people are interested.

I wouldve been more interested to work on modern engines too. Ours were very used and from scrap cars. One even came with bent valves and scarred pistons, I assume a timing belt failure.

Good morning from the office! Are you gonna fire up one of the engines in there as well? ;-)

I doubt if they would still work. And all the bolts are hand tight, so they would probably explode.

That bonnet and windshield usually is a good protection for that indeed...
