Kinja'd!!!

Spotted these two outside a swanky hotel in Melbs. Should’ve taken a better shot of the Mac, I went for a closer look and it was stunning. The Papaya looked incredible in the sun, the carbon accents were perfect, it looked poised and aggressive. Far cry from the 12C of yore. That lift back 570 - I’d seriously be considering it if I had the money.

Goodnight everybody!

South of Melbourne, down in the country. Lovely part of the world. Great driving roads.

I’m currently in Mount Eliza myself. Plenty of great roads in spitting distance. I wouldn’t want to live too much closer to the city.

Some of the backroads around Flinders way are amazing - but being a local, I’d bet you knew that :P

I sure do ;) I think they’re working on the Shands Rd bridge, but once that’s done it should be a bag of laughs

Dunn’s Creek Rd and the segment of Boneo Rd between Flinders and Cape Schank are also incredible driving roads.

Yes they are! Just have to watch out for kangaroos on that Cape Schank stretch, so much so I’d avoid it completely at dawn/nighttime/dusk. I usually crawl through there at about 50, literally see about 100 ‘roos.

Dunn’s Creek is good too, but the surface is destroyed lately. They’ve had “temporary” 60km/ph limit signs because they cbf fixing it.

There’s still a tree along there that bears the mark of where I destroyed my first Z.

Arthurs Seat too. Obvious one, but a good one.

Great piece! Loved reading that. Really sad story, but great writing.

Arthur’s Seat is good fun, but given that I drive a tonne and a half of AWD German engineering, my car struggles like crazy through those tight hairpins. Plus, I have to rev the crap out of it to get up to speed through there, which isn’t great for older 1.8T VAG engines like mine.

Anyway, here’s a question - what cars did you used to see that you never see around anymore? Because I swear that every second SUV I saw on the Peninsula used to be a beaten-up Landcruiser, but these days, it’s all MLs and Cayennes. I guess that’s gentrification for you.

Thanks :)

What are you driving? Sounds like an Audi.

I have a similar issue - the V6 Z used to really hustle up that road, but the NA 2.0L in the MR2 struggles a bit despite being much lighter. Really highlights the importance of displacement for things like hill climbs.

Oooh I don’t know. I don’t know what happened to the Landcruisers, everyone thought they’d last forever. Of course the older Commodores and Falcons are disappearing. They used to be everywhere, but nowadays if you see a VL/VK it’s probably an enthusiast/hoon. Even the VT/VX are starting to fade away as they become sub-$3k cars
