Pictured: a highway at least eight and a half times worse than the 401.

But if someone did that and promised to destroy the Don Valley Parking Lot Parkway, I’d be pretty on board for that. No, I’m not mad that a stretch of road that usually takes three minutes to drive took forty minutes. Why do you ask?

I forbid the 401 & DVP. I have lots of family in KW area, and go there 3-4 times a year. I have to go down there this weekend, I just might pay the price for the 407 this time.

It’ll probably be worth it. I don’t usually mind the 401 depending on the time of day. The DVP is always something I want to avoid, though.

The lame part about the DVP is that northbound from Lakeshore, there aren’t any off ramps until the Bayview Extension. So, if an accident happens at the Extension, then there’s no escape. Whoever designed this road should be fired.

but the 401 is always busy, even at 2:30am on a Wednesday.

True enough. Nothing like those 2 am traffic jams.

It’s kind of funny, when my girlfriend flies in, we always arrange it depending on traffic. Meanwhile, when flying to her, it was like “whatever, there’s no traffic here anyway”.

I was born and raised here and returned home while I try to sort some of my life out. Other reasons to live in Toronto? Uhhh... you got me there.

Well now here’s your problem - you need to devote two of the three lanes each way to electric, hybrid and pilotless vehicles only.

Oh, that’s the plan for another one of our highways. The one currently falling onto the road below it. Yeah, that’ll be great to deal with.

You have to be a Jays fan. A Blue Jays clothing item comes with the package of moving to Toronto.

Didn’t move here (well, I moved back, but that doesn’t count). Don’t think I have a single Jays thing. But yeah, I dig the Jays.

Denver now wants to do that too. Thankfully work is debating rail passes for us so I can still function when the airport is suddenly twice as far away.

Toronto has always been a mystery to me, I lived in Montreal for 48 years. I never understood the supposed mystique of the GTA, if you want to be a big American city, then be in the U.S. The wannabe thing is weird, Canuck attempt at Chicago or Dallas? North of the city is okay, my folks lived in Aurora and my brother lived in Barrie.

This might seem off topic but remember that hit & run that happen on the 25th? That was one of my dads company trucks, it was later found with the bed full of illegal cigs & booze. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/hit-and-run-truck-was-stolen-1.3779603

Well done, sir. I’ve never met anyone who sez “I’m from Toronto”, I guess that’s something people wanna avoid?

I lived in Brossard, Dollard des Ormeaux, Pierrefonds, and Kirkland. Anyone outside of the province (or country) asked me where I lived, I said Montreal.

I live in the Seattle area now, 20 miles north of the city. Anyone asks, I live in Seattle. I think both Montreal and Seattle are fine cities, why is it in the GTA you need to disassociate from the city? Curious mostly

I hate the DVP although my commute on it is always against traffic and for only a short portion.

What do you replace it with? Unfortunately there aren’t many better options. Maybe if one lane is dedicated for the 401 ramps it might help things out a bit seeing as how there is always a traffic jam approaching the 401 from both north and southbound lanes. Or you can teach people to lane change properly. Or you can just wait for autonomous cars.

I dont like crowds or traffic.

Toronto is so clean. And people are quite nice. It is actually a very fun city to spend time in too. I bet winter is a bit harsh but the rest of the year is great there. I only spent a weekend in Toronto and I am used to the “grunginess” of NYC so that would explain why I found it so nice there. It felt kinda like a good mix between a European and American city. Like the best of both worlds.

I was quite confused when I got on the Subway before a Blue Jays game. Sure I am used to seeing lots of people with Yankees ball caps and maybe a jersey or two while near Yankee Stadium in NY. But Torono was a whole different extreme. Literally 100% of the people other than my girlfriend and I were in head to toe attire for the game. Then when we got out to the street, it was just a sea of blue!

I ride my bicycle along the DVP trails to work as often as I can. It was only when I started doing that did I find out there’s in fact a GO train that runs along that corridor.

While the parking lot sucks, destroying it makes no sense. (See also: Gardiner Expressway.) It’s dead slow because it carries a shitton of traffic. As it stands it sucks in those who think the highway must be the fastest way to get places and leaves the rest of us with alternate routes. Please don’t fill those routes on me...

Better plan, reengineer. (Again, see also: Gardiner Expressway.) Sure it’s hard now because it should have been done many years ago, but there aren’t really any options. The DVP needs at least one more lane in each direction. Nice they made it such an easy job by not pinching the road with some lovely double arch bridges... wait. As far as the Gardiner goes, it’s kind of late for that now that a distinct lack of foresight has condos right next to the roadway. Instead I would be satisfied with making the lanes narrow and squeezing another in on each side, even if it meant lowering the speed limit it’s still faster than “stopped”.

Well yeah, of course it would be replaced in this grand scheme. I just want to see it destroyed out of rage.

I also think the Gardiner needs to be stretched out further to connect up to the 401 on the east side of it, but that’ll never happen either. Can’t wait to leave the city!

Actually what I think the DVP, Gardiner and most of the city streets need now is the completion of the long-cancelled Allen Expressway. Unfortunately the only way to do that now is tunnel it down to the Gardiner. So... tunnel it down to the Gardiner.

The really depressing part is that despite the traffic, the train is still slower if you’re coming from somewhere like Durham. (and it’s like $16 round trip per day)
