Kinja'd!!!

A 2017 Elantra Limited, my current dd until the GT is out of the shop. I miss my fifth door and third pedal, but darn, this car is not a bad way to spend a commute. I’ll write up something a little longer form once I have more than one round trip under my belt.

Since cars have been on my mind lately, I emailed the salesperson I bought the GT from. She said to expect the i30N in the spring, but there’s no word on their allocations yet...

:-D

Yeah, but I’m guessing you have more fun in the S.

Nice gauge cluster - very teutonic. Brakes and steering feel better than last gen Hyundais?

Better than me, I get like 14 around town and 17-20 on the highway.

I like the driving dynamics more than my ‘14 GT, but that’s an apples to oranges comparison. My wife and I have owned an ‘08, Elantra, a ‘10 Elantra Touring and now the ‘14 GT. They just keep getting more refined with each generation/refresh. They also seem to be working out some of the more annoying chassis issues, like the ass-end wiggle the GT does when one side of the car hits a bump but the other doesn’t.

yes - rear end wiggle. I test drove an 09 before getting my Mazda and it did that, (kinda similar to a 1990 Nissan Sentra we had.) The new ones sure are nice looking and I really like the nice but not over the top, (like Ford,) interiors.

Looks like the same gauge cluster that is in my 13 jsw. Not that it’s a bad thing I like the mfd in between the gauges. Must be a symmetry thing but I am not a fan of it off to one side. Then again I am lazy and leave mine set in speed so I rarely look at the actual speedometer.

It was a tough choice between the GT and the 3.

I’m really looking forward to looking at the I30 N...

Me too. I’m really hoping that brand loyalty counts for something if allocations are tight...

Jesus. You’d think you would get much better mileage than a S600

That engine likes to rev, and I oblige. It’s not geared for fuel economy at all. Sits at about 3500 at 75.

That’d do it lol. I’m doing like 1900 rpm there.

Have you seen the 2017 Elantra Sport? It looks damn good.

I have now, thanks. It’s also nice to see they’ve finally got an independent rear end in the mix.

Intriguing, but I’m most excited about the i30N. There’s a reason I’ve owned the Touring and the GT, I’m partial to utilitarian drivers with three pedals and five doors.

Yeah I’m definitely excited about the i30N as well. I’m hoping its competent enough to be an actual FoST and GTI fighter. Although it’ll never happen, I’m led to believe if it sells well enough they might consider an AWD version.
