I am an Apple guy but I haven’t been impressed with their build Quality lately so last October I bought a surface pro 3, now since august I have been getting a “no battery detected error” and it hasn’t been able to be unplugged. does anybody here know how to fix it? Nibby? Nibbles?

Could be battery failure or something internal, if you bought it later in october last year maybe it still has warranty?

Its extremely unlikely you’d be able to fix this without an rma, that sounds like a hardware failure. I’d call MS and see if you are still covered by the warranty. Even if your a couple days out there is a decent chance that they will still cover it.

I had a ThinkPad tablet years ago that did something similar after a few weeks of use. If I recall correctly, it had something to do with the battery’s firmware (I don’t know how a battery has firmware, but that’s what I remember. While Googling, I did see this, which may be relevant: http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/microsoft-finally-releases-patch-for-surface-pro-3-battery-issues )
At any rate, I needed a new battery (In my case, I called IBM tech support at 2 AM on a Sunday and they overnighted a new battery to me for free, because they used to be so awesome at customer service).

Maybe you can help me with my Mac. I was getting a kernel panic back in August that went from once or twice a week and got more frequent until it wouldn’t even make it all the way through boot-up except in recovery mode. I reformatted the drive and upgraded from Mavericks to El Capitan and that seemed to fix it. Except after a month it started happening again. It wouldn’t boot without kernel panic last night, I left it unplugged, and then this morning it would boot but only last just long enough to send the report to Apple. Then it stopped making it through the boot sequence again, even if I tried recovery mode. So after a few hours unplugged I’m trying again, and now it acts like its booting but gives a progress bar that slows waaaay down around the half-way point, and stops around 7/8, and then the screen goes black and it sits there like that, no matter how I try to boot. Whether it’s not responding to keyboard commands or the Bluetooth keyboard just isn’t quick enough I’m not sure, but it’s not even resetting pram/nvram the way I expect.
I’m starting to wonder about hardware issues, but I can’t see a bad harddrive doing that. I’ve also tried using each ram stick on its own to try isolating a bad one but it doesn’t make a difference and I refuse to believe all four of my ram sticks spontaneously and simultaneously died.
It’s a mid—2011 base 21.5" iMac. Don’t really want to replace it yet. I’m almost tempted to take it 200 miles to the nearest Genius Bar but every time my brother’s visited one he’s ended up with a new machine. And I don’t really want to do that.

It looks like there is a support page for this:
as well as a fairly popular microsoft support thread.
I also have a surface pro 3, and honestly kinda wish I went with a normal laptop. it works fine, I would just be better off with something else.

Its probably some bad ram. Thats usually what causes kernal panics like that. One bad stick of ram could cause an issue like this and that gen (if I remember correctly) wont run with less than 2 sticks of ram. Try systematically removing one stick of ram until you find the bad one. So essentially youre on the right track, but your diagnostic process is inverted

Did that didnt work. Gave it back to the guy that fixed my screen today. If he cant fix it for free under warranty Im gonna replace it at the windows kiosk in the cherry creek mall free under warranty (which expires in 4 days)

Thanks for the response. I’m pretty sure it was running on one at a time back in August, but maybe I’m wrong. I pulled the two aftermarket ones out (per apple’s guide) and eventually was able to boot off the recovery drives. Disc utility couldn’t repair my main boot partition at all (something anout the wrong number of files, and it still wouldn’t boot off it) but I was able to erase and install a backup, although it’s another four hours before that’s done so I’ll check on it tomorrow. I’ll see how it goes after that I guess. I’ll leave the two aftermarket ram sticks out and if it seems good add them one at a time. I’m honestly starting to wonder if my HD is going bad. It is five years old, and had typically been running at or near the storage capacity on the main partition most of the time. The other partition is bootable, but just a small one to avoid having to completely wipe the drive in the event of a meltdown in hopes I can still get in there to save files that weren’t backed up. It used to be for running Windows but my free 8.1 license expired so it was just sitting idle until I had issues this summer. I didn’t have a proper backup at all, but a clean install of OS X on there allowed me to save everything important on the main partition. Glad I got an external drive though and set up time machine cause I couldn’t get anything out of the main partition at all... It took a few attempts to mount it just to reformat it.

Try updating the battery firmware... and might as well give it a shot if you have access to another charger
