It’s built like one too. Though the G-Wagon may be the ultimate automotive fashion accessory for some, there can be no arguing that there is substance behind that style.

Can confirm. G-Wagon doors have the most satisfying “THUNK” of locking into place. It does literally feel like you just closed the door to a safe. And they handle off-roading like a boss. It’s a shame that most of them never see more dirt than an unpaved parking lot at a soccer field.

Can confirm the bit about the doors.

The LX is better in every conceivable way.

And if I’d asked you a year ago, you would’ve told me the Escalade was better in every conceivable way.

External door hinges are so boss.

The lex probably performs as well, it’s definitely more reliable. However it looks like soccer practice, not a handsome bank vault.

My indie german mechanic hates them, says they’re horrible overengineered (bad as in german over engineered) pieces of shit.
I still want one.

Frame on body. Solid axles on coil springs. Some transmissions with a dipstick. Sign me up, what can possibly go wrong.

My indie german mechanic actually had an ‘03 G500, said it was a money pit but built like nothing else. So same idea with a different viewpoint I guess.

Overengineered? I agree. And a Range Rover does it better and more stylishly.

That may have been more his sentiment, either way he was not a fan.

It’s the only car I’ve been in where my voice echoed throughout the cabin during casual conversation

I can tell you, where it matters, with new car buyers, very few people will be cross-shopping them. The used car market is different, but manufacturers don’t build cars for the used car market.

I have seen one of these pulling a horse trailer, and one driving literally straight down the side of a mountain on a device road that mostly resembled a wide hiking trail. So every once in a while they do get used.

Thanks for reminding me!
The escalade is also better in every conceivable way.

I’m taking your opinion with every conceivable grain of salt.
