The East German designed !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! airliner saw two prototypes built, and production started, prior the whole thing being called off by the Soviets. The aircraft featured first tandem fuselage gear and then pylon mounted main gear.

It almost has a 1940s look to it, which makes sense, since it was based on an unbuilt bomber design for the Soviet Union from the late ‘40s/early ‘50s. Hard to see how much of a market it would have had, aside from Interflug, if production had been allowed to go forward.

The Soviets would have strong armed all their satellite states to continue buying Ilyushins and Tupolevs, and non-Communist airlines would have stayed away.

Fascinating. I’ve never heard of this airplane. With that tandem gear, this bears an intriguing resemblance to the Buff. Go pop some popcorn and check this out.
