Yep, still smells pretty doggy in there.
Me and my housemate went and pulled the engine today. He has spent a lot of the week evenings pulling stuff off the engine to make it possible.
Note the bonnet on the roof. Only way to get the access we need.
Nawwhhh the previous owners.
Ewwwww the previous owners...
Gearbox in the process of coming out (hence the lack of knob)
the new Lexus Lightweight range hasn’t really caught on. Something about being underpowered?
And the fucked engine.
Head...
And the remnants of the water pump pulley.
Pulled out the rear seat to access the rear O2 sensor on the exhaust. Filth left behind...
Yep, thats grim.
Under the passenger seat.
Atleast the car is paying for itself.
Gearbox and Exhaust are completely removed whilst we work out how we are going to refit the engine with a fairly limited access.
New engine is sourced and being pulled from another crashed car and being delivered in the next few weeks. As we arent in any rush and got a good price, so aiming for a running car again by November.

What are the plans for this car? Modifying it a bit or just a nice cheap DD?

Gonna turn it into a track slag. We both have niceish DDs (RX8 for him) so this shall be an MOTless trackday toy. But thats a little ways off now, just letting funds settle down before throwing any big money at it. Its only getting another 2.0 straight six in it, so only 150bhp there. But RWD so should make a good car to learn to drive fast(ish) in.

Could be a fun learner drift car if you ever gained any interest in such a thing. Not sure if LSDs are available for those mind. Thats what Id like to do with the e36.

They are indeed. The IS300 with the 2JZ engine has an LSD which i believe can be transferred across.

Pretty cool. I have to say the IS is a good performance bargain right now. I assume for the same reason I never bought one, people forget about them in lieu of cheap BMWs.

You are getting the GTE motor, right?
Right?

Yeah we were talking about BMWs and I remembered that the IS had a 2JZ. Sadly ours doesnt, but still a nice RWD car for naff all money. I mean maybe spending a little more on a base car would have been smart. But hey, life is a game.

Non, just another 1G-FE inline 6 for now. Was cheaper than a 2JZ, and we just want to get it running for now.

IS with a 1UZ FE or better known as the Lexus LS400 engine from the Lexus LS400 that coincidentally can be picked up for less than a grand. #Wink, Wink. Nudge, Nudge#

I paid about the same for my e36 and the IS body is in much better shape, although the e36 has a solid engine haha. Still a great buy for 250. Id love an is300, but Id always want to turbo it, which isnt as simple as youd imagine and the thing would become a moneypit.

Stop that, stop that now! we have already bought the 1G-FE but once that goes pop then something more powerful will go in. For now I’ve not done any track driving, so rather learn in something less powerful before moving up to something with big BHP.

Yeah plus the 300 only comes with an Auto. Speaking to someone at work you can get a kit which allows a BMW 330CI gearbox to fit, but its not the work of a moment.
Eehhhh the body is definitely a 10 yard car. Up close every corner is knocked, the rear door has a mega dent and the rear light is smashed. But not rusty I will give you that.

Huh never knew that they were auto only. Bit of a deal breaker for me.
Wait till you see the e36 in person, youll think your IS is a brand new car by comparison haha.

I feel its best not to ask, in this case i’m sticking with ignorance is bliss. though the aroma does point pretty hard towards dog orgy. maybe the automotive archeology we will conduct once it runs and we can bring it to the house will be enlightening.
