So a week before the VW stuff came out I started to think about selling my GTI. I had some equity in it and I really wanted to get back into a WRX. So I started to look and think about it and do numbers. I looked on nada.com and looked at trade in value and all that stuff. Everything was looking good when all of a sudden...BOOM. VW gets in trouble. I notice a week later my car dropped 2 grand on trade in. I found a 2012 WRX I liked. Test drove it and blah blah blah we finally got to negotiating.
We got to a price hire than I liked, but i was willing to talk if the trade-in was good. The Sales guy talks to his manager and then they tell me they won’t even put a number on my car. So god I hope this blows over quick. This is pretty frustrating.

And it’s not even a TDI. That sucks.

You’re telling me. I even told them that

Horrible time to sell a GTI = Horrible time to sell an R32. Try one of those instead. A VW dealer might even be willing to work with you in the GTI, though it does mean getting more involved with VW. Can’t blame you if you don’t wanna do that.

As these things usually work, a bad time to sell is a great time to buy.

It seems the VW brand as a whole is being affected by this. There isn’t much they can do about it though withought sinking billions of dollars into compensation.

Ugh yea I can’t imagine that. I’d go to a VW dealer if they wanted to sell me a clean WRX. I have no problem with that

I hope once this starts to blow over their value comes back up a bit

Yea no kidding. It’s in some ways too bad.

That sucks man. People are so stupid about all of this diesel-gate nonsense. The GTI is consistently rated one of the best cars available, nothing has changed there.
I’m not surprised though that sort of illogical thinking has been pretty typical in my experiences with Subaru dealers.

It’s too bad, i actually liked this dealership too. Their service dept was nice enough to me a few times when I had to bring in my old wrx for big repairs. I would’ve liked to give them my business.
Illogical thinking though is also what keeps wrx’s value so high which made it difficult to even talk them down in the first place. That’s a consumer problem as much as a dealer. In short yes I agree with you haha

Are people aware there’s a difference between a diesel engine and a gas one?

Looks like you’re stuck with it for now. I’m guessing that prices will recover somewhat after this blows over. Might take a while though.

Dafuq? NADA and KBB say my 2011 Sportwagen TDIs value hasn’t dropped at all in the past 3 weeks or so... and it is the most prominent vehicle in the scandal!
Why is it lowering ALL volkswagen values?

No idea...Did they just announce a new GTI? I don’t really follow it too much. It could be for stupid reasons like that and i just correlated the two. Don’t know though. I’m shocked yours hasn’t dropped regardless

It sucks but it shouldn’t come as a surprise. TDI or not, VW is tainted now, and nobody can determine the long term effect this will have on their car’s values. Buyers aren’t as savvy as to think of which car has which engine. They just think “oh, I saw VW in trouble on the news, I don’t want to buy one of their cars”. It’s just too risky to put a value on one at the moment. My dealership doesn’t want to take any on trade at the moment either.
