Before we go any further, I’m not bringing this up because people are criticising Chevy trucks and I happen to like them. It just happened to come up in a search. I did check out other vehicle ratings on the same site, I don’t recall seeing anything more than 3 stars.
But DAMN the amount of people complaining because a manufacturer wouldn't fix or recall a wear-and-tear problem on a 10, and sometimes 20 year old vehicle.

One of my favorite pastimes when internet shopping is to look at all the one star reviews. About 90% of the one star reviews are because the people don’t understand how to use the product.

Dumbass complaining about the transmission breaking at 300,000 miles. Well, no shit Sherlock. Owning a vehicle means maintaining it when things break. Sometimes that includes transmissions. Bet they probably never did a fluid flush either. Idiot.

Precisely. The second one really gets me. Bearing in mind it was posted in 2015, and presumably had just developed.
I have a Chevy s-10 1997. I have a intake gasket that needs replaced. Now it’s going to cost hundreds of dollars to have fixed. I have used the Dex cool antifreeze for years in my GM trucks. Now I’m hear that this product is cause damage to many vehicles. I hope that GM decides to take care of the issues.
Moron.

Thanks? Not sure what I’m going to do with your number 2, but I’ll think of something.

I dont have an account anymore so I can’t log on to CR website, but I think it was in 2013 CR released their overall car rankings and ratings, regardless of class. They ranked the Camry Hybrid HIGHER than a Corvette. I will never trust a publication that ranks a Camry Hybrid higher than a Corvette in any category, unless the category is along the lines of “which car is more beige?”

Maybe they’ll fix it on the 1998 model.

I don't trust CR in any way shape or form. This could be considered bias, since I have a Colorado, but bear in mind I have a late-model with a V8, not the ones they discussed. Anyway, back to the story—They had put up a short review in their book the way they always do, completely lambating it. Mostly about it's "rough and noisy" I5. Now, the earlier I5 was, from everything I've read, rough, so fair point. But this was in a book from a couple years AFTER they switched from the 2.8 and 3.5 to the 2.9 and 3.7, which were much better. The review was from 2005. They just never bothered to update their review. I found a few more like that, too—like they had taken a particular dislike to a vehicle and decided that they were never going to update the info, just in case it had gotten better.

I always love how they almost always rank the Jeep Wrangler last overall in their rankings, yet it’s still one of the best selling vehicles in the country
Only thing I look at is their fuel economy testing since it’s on the road. City is an aggressive cycle and highway is easy, but it lets you see an apples to apples comparison between vehicles.

In his defense, they should all be in jail for developing Dex Cool lol

They’re right the Wrangler s objectively a horrible vehicle, but they’re a lifestyle vehicle so buyers don’t care.

What makes them great, is what makes them bad at the same time. They’re just fun to drive.

In GM’s defense, it’s perfectly OK as long as it’s used correctly.
And an intake gasket in 18 years is hardly a thing to complain about.

Tell that to my 04 blazer that had to get it’s heater core flushed every winter if I wanted heat. (important in Michigan haha)
After the 2nd flush the mechanic said I got rid of all the dexcool, never put it in this thing again.
Then next winter when he flushed it he went holy shit how is this thing still gunked up?
Biggest problem I had with that truck, I should have just replaced the heater core.

I love reading all the my break line failed from rust. Espically since mine just did. I don’t blame GM I blame NE winters and salt.

I just saw the one featuring an owner of a 97 S-10 complaining that he has to replace an intake gasket. Holy shit dude, your truck is almost 20 years old. What do you expect?
Edit: I will say there seems to be a pattern with people complaining about brake lines rusting through.

Fair enough. Still, since most people never have issues... I'll let it rest there. Isn't it something to do with air getting in the lines? I thought it was if the system wasn't bled properly it would wreak everything. So, if it was never bled properly when the vehicle was manufactured, it would probably keep resurfacing.

To be fair, that WAS an issue in that period, brake lines rusting out fast. Though a little “looking under your vehicle sometimes and being aware of common issues on it” would have solved it.
I like the one where someone in a Montana was hit by a drunk driver and his seatbelt didn't hold him. He is blaming GM. Fair enough, right? He then goes on to say that there was a recall for the Montana, in which that was fixed. Uh, not GM to blame here buddy. Blame the previous owner who ignored the recall letter.

Brake lines are a known issue for GM vehicles, mostly trucks, of that age. Still, I'd probably blame salty roads in the winter and lack of washing said salt off.
In any case they are still out of warranty, and besides if they did any research at all when they bought it they'd know to look underneath once in a while to see how they were doing. On the other hand, if they were bad when the vehicle was taken in for sevice, during the warranty period...

I absolutely agree that once the warranty period is done, the responsibility is on the shoulders of the owner. I just wonder why GM used brake lines that weren't stainless steel or galvanized.

I’ve never seen stainless steel brake lines. Cars come with probably galvanized steel lines over in europe, or atleast did in the 90’s, and whenever they go bad you just change them to copper tubing, and you’ll probably never have that issue that... only stainless steel regarding brake lines i hear about is the rubber lines.

late to the party, but check this one out:
Me and girlfriend was coming down rocky canyon known as Shaw Mountain Rd. and hit soft dirt. Back started to swerve and tried to turn the steering wheel the way of skid and no steering and no ABS brakes. It had a recall on my 1994 Chevy suburban. We hit brush and lights out. My truck is totaled. It wasn’t my fault. and It was the truck itself.
Oh my. Guy crashes 21 year old truck on a dirt road, can barely write coherent sentences but has the werewithal to post a complaint on this website??

There was another one on there with a recall... he was basically blaming GM because the previous owner hadn't had the recall done.
