I need (or want) a watch for when I’m doing some sort of outdoorsy exercise (e.g: bike riding, swimming in the ocean, running on the street, falling down constantly, traveling to places that are not safe) and I decided I want a LUMINOX 3080 . I’d like you to weigh in.

The case isn’t too big, it has a modern TAG-ish military design, rubber bracelet, sturdy Carbon PC case and their cool NV Tubes for a fair price. What else should I consider? Do you like it?

I got my first Casio G-Shock back in the late ‘80s. I used it as my primary dive watch. After 20 years or so, the plastic shock case surrounding the watch finally gave up and fell to pieces. The hardware inside is still going strong. I could have bought new plastic, but the watches are so inexpensive now that I bought a new one. That was ten years ago or so.

I have much nicer watches for work and dress occasions, but I still wear the newer G-Shock for any activity where my watch might get banged around.

I have my Victorinox for harsh situations and the Omega for day to day things. I wanted something bulkier.

The G-Shock is fairly bulky and I wouldn’t want anything much bulkier. Mine gets a bit annoying when swimming, especially when I was getting recertified as a lifeguard. The other guards in training didn’t appreciate the arm with the big watch being inserted into their armpit during rescue drills.

I'd recommend it. My father wears a luminox and loves it.

++ on the G-Shock. I’m using one of those atomic and solar ones and it’s nice not having to worry at all about it.

I’ve thought about getting one of the solar ones, but can’t remember ever having to change the battery on the watches I already own. What I’d really like is a dress watch with a light-up face like the timex indiglo. I can't find a Timex watch I like.

I have this G Shock I bought used on eBay for 40 bucks and it’s a Japanese market specific special model. It’s been with me hell and back. I don’t like watches while I’m riding a bike. Never feels good. Garmin works better on the handlebars. And as this is used and shows its wear, people don’t take half a glance at it.

For more fancy situations I have a cheap Swedish watch Or a BMW M branded watch from the 90s.
