HELP! STOLEN BMW M6 GRAN COUPE IN NYC

License plate number DXS8490. My fathers BMW M6 Gran Coupe was stolen out of a parking garage on west 32nd street earlier this morning, it is Black Sapphire Metallic with tinted windows and blacked out grills up front with an M6 designation on them. The people who stole this probably know what they are doing because the battery connected to BMW’s SOS system has been removed and it is completely off the grid at the moment. I hope to god something was caught on the millions of cameras in NYC that can help out but until then I want to get as many eyes looking as I can. If you see this car driving like a lunatic it is because some asshole is joyriding it. Please, if you see anything let me know. I am at work at the moment so I only have a few pictures of the car on hand and I’ll try to add more when possible.

Yeah, I really hope they are that stupid, there were less than 7,000 of these the year it was produced so they aren’t necessarily common.

Usually if they’re going part out a car, they steal something like a 10 year old Accord or Camry. The rarity of this BMW helps, because there are so few of them. Let us know what happens.

Yes it was, not sure yet but it is either an inside job or negligence. I have no idea if there is any footage I am hoping there was. I was just made aware of this a little while ago. While he goes through the conventional channels I am trying to get as many helping eyes as I can.

unfortunately, there arent many garages in nyc anymore where you can park yourself. i assume so they can cram in as many cars as possible and dont want people in their cars riding up and down in the elevators. and i’m always hesitant to leave my keys with any attendants, but in this case, i imagine the theft would have been avoided in such a garage.

i’m in soho... work down here, and i’ll keep an eye out, haven’t seen anything in my walk to work, or when heading to lunch... and i definitely wouldve noticed that car with those wheels. are the wheels stock? they look great.

i highly doubt it’d end up on craigslist. my guess is it was quickly driven to queens loaded onto a covered trailer, then driven to newark where it’ll be put in a container and shipped to [insert eastern european country].

I think my father has just about everything under the sun covered for it. It was babied like another child. My family is very fortunate. Even if for some reason insurance didn’t cover it, it isn’t about the money, it is personal.

My thoughts exactly. If my car gets stolen I want it never to be found or totaled. Nothing worse then getting a stolen car back after its been beaten on/smacked up.

Yeah, the cars in this underground lot are like sardines. The wheels are stock. What makes this gran coupe all the more special was that it is actually one of the first that BMW delivered stateside.

This is my guess. Driven directly to a shipping container where it is packed away and locked up (with fraudulent customs forms of course) where it sails through customs and in 2 weeks time will be in some 2nd world country where you’ll never find it.

I hope you find the car in good shape and asshole thief/thieves in not-so-good shape...

I once read an article that it is common for valets in NYC to leave the keys in the car (and not in a security box/office) to speed up the process of parking/retrieving the cars.

Of course, this is an incredibly stupid thing to do. But if the car was stolen on their watch, I’d look into the possiblity of suing them for the loss.

Oh someone is definitely going to get beaten down at least when it comes to their wallet. It isn’t about the money though, I take this theft personally. I just want it to be all in one piece and if I find the people responsible they sure as hell won’t be.

if the container would be in queens i’d say yes. i imagine you’d want to get the thing out of sight as quickly as possible. and queens is going to be the best way to do it.

too much traffic, too many cops, too many cameras around the hudson river crossings. so driving the car straight to a container by the port would be asking to get caught.

32nd street to queens-midtown tunnel is a straight shot across town. the qmt dumps you off in the south side of queens, and its much shorter than the holland or lincoln. just out of long island city it gets very industrial in just a few blocks. perfect spot for a container or a covered trailer.

then i’d probably just let it chill there for a couple of months... let the heat die down so to speak... then get it to the ship.

not that i’ve thought about it much. :)
