I’m trying to take off my chrome exhaust tips to clean them. That’s one thing. I’m also considering plastidipping them black. Anyone think I should do it?

Would dip even last? You might be able to scuff them up and spray with VHT

I’d imagine plastidip might melt and be bad. As far as getting them off, have you tried using tools? (I kid, but in reality I’m of no use or knowledge to you)

I’d be concerned with the temps plastidip can survive at.

If you dip them black it'll just look like your tips fell off from any distance.

temps that plastidip can withstand are my biggest concern.
But i wouldn’t plastidip or paint them black. Clean them up and be done with it.

uh..wouldnt the plastidip just melt off?
Also, good luck getting them off without breaking something.

It will be fine with normal driving. I’ve decided not to do it though.

Why do they need to be taken off the car to clean them? They look pretty readily accessible. Spray some Simple Green on there, wipey wipey with a towel, wax on wax off, good to go.

Some googling shows that Plastidip is only rated up to 200 deg F. Not exhaust safe imho.

I know you decided against it but if you DO decide to paint them any color use high temp engine/caliper paint. You could also get metallic silver high temp paint and do it.
As for cleaning it, as AtlasM said some simple green would work. If you’ve got some clay that’ll work really well too. Get some Mother’s Aluminum and Metal polish if you want to go the extra mile.
