Diligent digital auto tuner/prophet Theophilus Chin has come up with a whole Audi lineup featuring a different take on Audi grille everyone has grown accustomed to in the last decade or so.
He worked out how a grille along the lines of the “B6” A4 would look on several contemporary Audi models.
Some look very close to the current reality, others (e.g. TT) seem almost estranged, yet still appealing in their own way.
His take on the A8 W12, for example, does not do it for me, but that might just be the headlights, which do not integrate nearly as seemless as those on the previous-generation cars.
When it comes to the colossal Q7, I might even prefer this look to Audi’s gaping single-frame mouth.

For cars like the S3, I think the lower/upper grille division works much better than what they have.
Do you think Audi would have been less successful with these? Or would they have sold better?

I happen to like the way all Audis look, so these would take some getting used to but I think they would grow on me.
That TT, though, with the yellow paint looks like a Chevy Sonic.
Edit: Also, they all remind me of this:

His Audi A8 looks a lot like the D3 A8.

If only. Looks especially good on the 7.

Oh yes, the RS6 (C5) had one of the better-looking faces of the time. I tend to prefer the even stealthier looks of the “black” chromeless details, but with the chrome making its way to the lower grille section, too, this manages to pull it off.
The only car I really dislike the artist’s approach on is the current-generation R8, which just looks like crap. It might have worked on the more rounded predecessor, though.

Getting a Ford vibe off several of these. Though the A8 looks like a Passat.
This is an intriguing exercise.

I like it on the A7, but not on the rest of the cars. It just reminds me of the older ones. It makes the A8 look like a passat

That might have been where he was coming from, yeah. With the newer headlights, though, it seems more difficult to incorporate no-nonsense design cues.
Still the most dignified of the bunch, even after half a dozen or so years.

Yeah an R8 would probably look odd.

I can’t even identify that car without looking it up ... which is a good thing, I guess.
To be clear about it, I tend to enjoy Audi’s designs, the single-frame grill just seems overdone on some cars in their lineup, especially the Q7. The A1 and maybe even the A3 don’t need it either, but it also works there.
Yellow might just ruin the appeal of many cars; someone else already called the TT out for looking like a Focus Coupe. ;)

It does look like an oddjob on the A8, yeah ... doesn’t exactly kick it into the future of design.

That must be the lower front section then ... it worked like a charm on the previous generation.
Ford vibe, you say ... does that mean that it subjectively moves them downmarket? /curious

I had to look whether this was the allroad or the other car ... it was only then that I remembered the dark plasticky bits on the allroad’s fenders.
Happily agreed, though, it works well with this kind of front.

No Idea, but we might have had a more boring Fusion if Ford couldn't use Trapohectomaniacal grill or whatever they call it.

Now that’s an awkward attribute when discussing a car as expensive as this.

Yeah, that full width, black and chrome egg-cratey thing is very VW.
Ford has some classy-looking cars, so I wouldn’t say downmarket. There are a lot of similar shapes going on there, though.

Looks great on the smaller cars. Especially the S3 cab.

I wonder how long it will take until they reverse the “ever larger” trend. I’ll agree, though, the S3 is among the prettiest of the reimaginations.
