Sorry folks, I had to get to bed early last night so I neglected to make a QotN post. Hence, we have a 2-for-1 special!

1: What vehicle should be or have been a convertible but isn’t/wasn’t?
2: What is the best-overall RWD non-Miata convertible?

Why convertibles? Because it’s still just warm enough to have the top down, and the autumnal turning of the leaves is very soon.

For me, the first answer would be the Ford Raptor. Yes, it’s rugged, capable off-roader, and needs structural rigidity - which could be regained elsewhere, or done Bronco-style with a solid front cabin section and an exposable rear section.

Kinja'd!!!

The second answer would probably be the Jaguar F-Type. Yes, there are faster convertibles, ones with more power and luxury, better performance, cheaper and more pricey options, but the F-Type is a good balance of power, performance, price, and especially sound.

Kinja'd!!!

Alright, Oppos, gimme both of your answers!

This, because the world deserves a Cross-Cabrio that doesn’t look like a pig’s behind.

Kinja'd!!!

Or the Fisker Karma, the Sunset concept looked absolutely stunning.

And finally for #1, obvious answer is obvious.

Kinja'd!!!

And I think you hit the nail on the head with the F-Type.

Ooooh - a “Bronco style” Raptor with removable roof? In full zebra stripe? I’m in.

I agree the F-type is fabulous but I’ve had a thing for BMW 3 series ‘verts - “the ultimate tanning machine”.

*Not a convertible from the factory. These aftermarket jobs are a ripoff at $15,000 (plus 3 or 4 weeks of work), and it won’t be as good quality as a factory drop top would be.

It does look reeeeally good though!

Best overall: Aston Martin Vanquish Volante: IMO both the best looking and sounding car on sale today. Astons have always given off an aura of perfection to me.

I stand by the thought that no contemporary Mercedes sedan should be a two door variant, especially the E-class. I think the CLS should hold the 4-door and 2-door coupe body variants as well as convertible options and line up with the 6-series. I also think the same of the current C-class. It should be sedan and wagon while an updated CLK should have the other sport image variations.

Kinja'd!!!

Didn’t mean to get two Mercedes but the SL has such a vast range (some variants match the Z4, some the middle variants of 911, and at the top the v12 cruisers in the Vanquish, Continental GT, and Wraith). I think that’s phenomenal. Easy to forget since it’s ancient at the moment.

I’m not as familiar with Vipers as I used to be. Does the current generation not come as a convertible?! That’s insane!

I think that means the only North American market FCA vehicles that are sort of a convertible are the Wrangler and 500 Cabriolet.

I do love Aston Martins. Britain has one hell of an appealing lineup nowadays with McLaren, Noble, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, and allegedly TVR is being resurrected. Plus the standby Lotus, Caterham, Morgan, etc.

I hope the alleged Barracuda gets a convertible. There are convertible E-Classes which were the basis for the 300/Charger/Magnum/Challenger siblings, so why Daimler didn't give Dodge one is nuts. It fixes all but one of the quibbles I have with the Challenger, namely visibility and rear seat access.

I no rite? The convertible used to be available first with Vipers!

But there is the upcoming 4C spyder and the gran turismo convertible, but otherwise I think you’re right.
