I recently flew into Fairbanks for a brief vacation, and spent the week driving around Alaska, sleeping in the back of a Ford Transit Connect, and taking time lapses which I composed into this “car review” below that is not at all about the Ford except for a brief 3 second cameo.

Enjoy!

The Transit Connect is what I would call “perfectly adequate but not spectacular in any way,” and “a minivan, sort of.”

Alaska is what I would call “Fucking amazingly beautiful, like, way more than anyone can explain,” and “a state, sort of.”

Damn, nice video. Alaska (or the Yukon) is at the top of the list for for my next holiday/vacation time after I go to Lake Placid in a couple of weeks.

What camera are you using for these shots?

Thanks! I use a Sony a6000. Night shots use a Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 lense, all the others are the cheapo lens that comes with the camera.

Ooh, that gives me hope that I might be able to achieve something similar. I’ve got an NEX-5R, a predecessor to your camera. I’m still rocking the kit 18-55 lens (likely the same as yours) though, I’ll have to pick up something more suitable like that Rokinon or some other wide angle lens.

The Rokinon is amazing for astrophotography and anything really low light like the aurora. I swear I had the cheapest camera of all the tourists in Alaska; everyone was walking around with full frame Canon with gyro stabilizing lenses and all sorts of widgets. Way overkill if you ask me.

Those time lapses are most excellent! You’ve got the mad skillz sir! Also, I was seriously considering buying a transit for an everyday commuter/cargo vehicle. It just seems so damn practical

To bring this into perspective, I would have a longer video shot of you (whom ever) standing at the roads edge.. take a picture then walk back, to the TC open the door, get in, close the door and drive off up the hill..
