Don’t most carmakers run their F1 teams sort of like how colleges run their sports programs? That is, self-supporting?
I think if VW backs out, it’s for PR reasons and not for actual fiscal problems.
I’m much more excited about all the fun that will come with their Diesel LeMans cars at the next endurance race. Oh, the practical jokery...

i imagine as such, for running costs, or at least the entire thing may be written off as a marketing expense. but still, they’d have to come up with the capital for the initial purchase.
and at lets say ~$200 million yearly budget, what would that initial price be?
also, with regard to college sports, schools absolutely contribute to their budgets. that’s how the whole title 9 thing got started.
