As many of you know I drive a beater Ford Taurus. We’ve bonded and I love it so I don’t want to hear any of your nonsense about it being crappy or boring.

The car has over 200k miles and is mostly mechanically sound but there are some rust issues I was hoping to stop before it became an issue.

Kinja'd!!!

This wheel well was pretty good just a quick sand and a lick of paint. Behold my shiny sway bar link!

Kinja'd!!!

This side was bad so I cut out a big chunk of the rusty stuff.

Kinja'd!!!

Cut a chunk out of an old sign I had. This is test fitting.

Kinja'd!!!

Cleaned it up and drilled a bunch of holes. I filled the holes with silicone and the edges of my cut as there are two layers back here. The two layers also hindered me from pounding out my big dent but I did make an improvement there.

Kinja'd!!!

Painted behind it and riveted it in place.

Kinja'd!!!

Complete! You can hardly even tell it is there.

I love the rivets. You should rivit a line around every seam on the car, they just look cool as hell.

One of my coworkers used to have one of these. The rocker panels didn’t exist.

+1 on riveting every seam and body line. At least make it look like you have riveted fender flares. That would be badass. Then you can use the leftover metal for making a wing.

Should have used wood screws. I hear people use them for everything. Either that or sheetrock screws, they last about 10 seconds anywhere else.

Then cheat. simulate it with bubbles of epoxy of some sort and then paint over them. Much easier, same look and easily replaceable.

I like the rivets because they match the cars paint better.

A real man would have used roundhead girder rivets... and replaced the whole side with a section of W-beam guard rail.

There are SHOs from that generation... I’d assume springs and struts would pop in place as would sway bars.
