They might be oversized but they save lives and that is fine by me.

To be fair, one of them is an actual race car.

Yup. Really, almost all of the size increase is crumple zones and chassis reinforcement.

These are great pics. The older smaller cars feel so much more connected to the world. Driving in modern cars gives me the feeling like I’m in a video game. Kind of separated from reality.

Every time someone posts about model bloat...safety crumple zones this, regulations and death that. -_-

Cars are safer, more reliable, more efficient, better quality, and better preforming.
There is a cost to that.

The actual Defender replacement (DC100) is somewhat less egregious.

Yeah but the new car:
Won’t kill you in a 15mph crash
Will stop quickly enough to avoid that 15mph crash
Will do highway speeds without throwing a gigantic hissy fits
Is capable of being turned at speeds below 5 mph
Will go into gear without you wondering “Fuck,I wonder what gear this is going to be”
Will keep you from looking like a swamp monster in the summer and a snowman in the winter.
Won’t give you back spasms during drives longer than an hour
Is actually capable of sitting in traffic
Doesn’t need an oil change every 1-3k miles

7.5 times less likely to die per vehicle mile traveled, 10 times more vehicle miles traveled. So, technically, the amount of total deaths were higher in 2000 than in 1925.
Yes, I know, you do have a very good point. I doubt this has a lot to do with physical size of vehicles though. That 1959 Bel Air was actually larger than 2009 Malibu in the video below.

50 years of engineering is an amazing thing. It is terrifying how the dashboard in the ‘59 just explodes towards the driver.

I’m always feeling like a dumbass when I’m complaining about model bloat.
So yeah, I want cars to be aesthetically appealing and simple, but at the moment I do have “the luxury” of just thinking about myself when I’m driving. As soon as there are other people involved - possibly small ones I was involved in creating - I want them to be as safe as possible inside a metal cage going down the road sorrounded by idiots.
Still, I’ve shown this picture of my car here before...
