These old Triumphs are so stinking cool. Would love to have one. Can it keep up with my elderly M? Not after a 10 yards. Still. The want is strong.

YES. The TR4/5 are seriously beautiful cars – while Michelotti never got the fame of designers such as Bertone and Giuigiaro, he did produce some very attractive designs, and even had a hand in the design of the classic BMW Neue Klasse look.

The old TRs are actually pretty quick for their era – after all, they were lightweight, and got a remarkable amount of power out of not a whole lot of engine. By old British sports-car standards, they’re actually pretty practical, too: they have proper wind-up windows, a fairly well-appointed interior, and even a decently sized boot; all things that my MGA sorely lacks.

They’re pretty quick (think Miata quick). I won’t try to argue the reliability point, however.
