Never let anyone borrow your stuff. Now I have to fix my tiller as the gear lever is stuck in neutral. Because the shaft is corruded, rusty and water is in the gear case!
I plan on taking everything out, clean that dirty peanut butter crap out, and replace it with better grease.
Should I use marine grease, wheel bearing, or just multi purpose grease?
I should be able to make it new again.

CV grease/ 00 would probably be fine.

No idea but that looks pretty gross

Did they put a hose in the gear case and turn it on?

He left it outside for a week and rain got in there. Most likely through the shift lever.

What model is the tiller? Might look up the user manual online and see what they call for.

That looks like way more than a week. There is a lot of rust in there.

Why do YOU have to fix it?

Shift lever assembly definitely is, but no rust at the bottom.
