Can you really only get the 2-tone interior on the highest trim level? Whats the sticker on that one?

It’s skinny but has nice bumps at 10 and 2. But yeah, there’s better wheels out there.

I’d say so. The car isn’t amazingly low and the (leather) seats are smooth so you can slide out rather nicely, as opposed to lifting a leg. That’s not to say they don’t have any bolstering however.

Unfortunately the window with the info page taped to it is rolled half down, price is obscured. This car is black with a tan interior. Both questions are better answered by the website, sorry.

The only interior options for the Grand Touring on the configurator are black leather or tan leather. The tan option has a black dash top, carpets, and center tunnel, if that’s what you mean by 2-tone.

Kinja'd!!!

Personally I think the tan leather on the door cards clashes with the red body color on the top of the door card. You can also get tan leather with black and gray, which probably wouldn’t clash so much.

But this is moot because Mazda only lets you spec the LSD, sport suspension, and Brembos on the Club trim, which has no leather option. The only interior option on the Club is black cloth with red stitching.

The NC was the big one too, I daily drove my brothers NA for about a month and I had to have the roof down to fit so that’s what I did in winter in Michigan.

Kinja'd!!!

Not his but close.

Fun, yes comfortable, hell no. My knees where jammed on the steering wheel so I had to shuffle the wheel every time I turned.

Kinja'd!!! D > Captain of the Enterprise
09/17/2015 at 13:35

Kinja'd!!!0

I just sat in it again with the seat pushed back+down all the way. I don’t know what 6’3” feels like, but I would guess you might be snug on legroom and have enough headroom; I have loads of the latter with the seat all the way back like that. There’s also a knob to tilt the seat bottom (with its axis of rotation being its intersection with the seat back)—when you think about the geometry, tilting the seat bottom upwards gives you more legroom.

IIRC this car is equivalent to or marginally more spacious than the outgoing model. My 6’0” dad has one of those and fits comfortably in it.

At any rate, it’s worth a test fitting.

PS - to add sprinkle a little extra hope on top, I’m between 5’9” and 5’10” and recall from earlier, I’m mostly leg

Worth paying attention to the Miata community in these coming couple of years. They’ve shoehorned some pretty big guys into NAs via simple mods and I’m excited to see if they’ll come up with any solutions for the new model.

There’s two USBs if front of the shifter, to the left a touch. I don’t see a standard 12-volt/lighter in here. There’s a large rectangular blank next to the USBs though.

It’s the one downside to being tall eh? haha. I find it’s hard to fit comfortably in most cars, though you still fit. My main test for a DD is can I drink a finish can of coke while driving or will it hit the roof. Very few cars pass this test haha

Same problem for me. The discomfort of my knees was the dealbreaker for me. Short trips every once in awhile would be ok, but no way I could daily drive like that. Just moving on and off the clutch was difficult with the weird angle my leg had to be tweaked to make it around the sterring wheel.

The consensus is that its there for the emergency-flat repair kit air compressor, which still uses an old school 12V plug.

Story of my life. I do know many that suffer, there’s a 6ft 5 guy I know who DD’s a BMW z8 alpina, I drove it too and it’s like being crushed with your knees to your ears.

This is why I tend to gravitate to full size trucks or SUVs sans moonroof or large GT cars. It passes the test and for DD it’s nice. I’ll buy a stripped out track car so I fit ;) haha

LSD is standard on the Club with manual transmission, and completely unavailable on all other trims. LSD used to be a much more common Miata option but not anymore.

I asked Dave Coleman from Mazda why we can’t have nice things like an ND Miata with leather seats, plus the sport suspension and LSD. This was his response:

Because luxury and sport are directly at odds with each other. The Bilstein suspension isn’t “better” than the GT suspension, it handles better and rides worse. We’ve noticed Miata buyers fall into three broad categories. Those who want a cute convertible (Sport), those who want a little race car (Club), and those who want a little luxury GT (GT). We aimed each trim at different people.

I get where he’s going with that idea, but at the same time, I think there are enough people who want some of the luxo stuff mixed with the sport stuff that there should at least be a leather option on the Club, or a sport package for the GT. Mazda apparently disagrees.

I’m more excited by the hypothetical Fiat 124 Spider Abarth that will combine the ND chassis with a turbo motor and hopefully a good suspension and LSD.
