Thanks for all the responses about aftermarket head units. Apparently I’m on a bit of a car audio kick this week, as now the topic is speakers!
Let’s keep it to just speakers, and - like last night - less than the cost of a LeMons car. No need to include subs and amps and such, just speakers.
I myself have never had a bad experience with aftermarket Infinity speakers, such that they’re all I’ll buy anymore (though my Mazda’s factory Bose system is acceptable - for now). Good price, good sound, and they have a decent appearance for those who like the exposed look. Plus, I’ve never had one fail on me.
Plus, I think that logo looks pretty cool.
How about you, Oppo Audiophiles? What’s your aftermarket (sub-$500/pair) speaker brand of choice?

My dad has Apline speakers which are godly; me being on a budget, have always went with Kicker and have been happy with that

I’ve got Polk’s in my car that have been going strong for six years. They still sound just as great when I replaced the terrible factory speakers.

Had the DB series Polk’s in my Supras. Great budget speakers.

Pioneer, Polk, Kenwood and yes Infinity would be the brands I’d be looking at, and then I’d probably just go for best price/value among them.

There are a ton of quality speaker brands. Stick with the top well known names and you will be fine. Find speakers that match well with the head unit/amplifier on specifications. For the best sound, strictly talking speakers here not amps etc., go with component sets that use crossovers. Although most people probably can’t tell a difference between a standard 2 way speaker versus a component set. And component sets are much more difficult and expensive to set up because you also need amps and subs and maybe even some low-mids.
Try www.onlinecarstereo.com if you’re trying to build a system. They’ve served me very well over the years.

I have a full set of Infinity speakers in my Civic with a Sony head unit. Great sound quality and higher volume capability than I’ll ever use. I think the volume range on the head unit is 0-50, but anything over 20 will induce hearing loss.
Only been in there for about six months, so I can’t speak for longevity.

I had put MB Quart in my Crosstrek when I had it and I really liked the sound they gave off being powered by the stock head unit. Great sound for the price.

I’ve had a set of infinity reference series for 9 years, I got them when I turned 16, they’ve been in 2 cars and they’ll be going in my new one as soon as I get the guts to rip the door cards off. Great speakers.

Nice! The Infinity speakers in my Volvo I installed within the first week of ownership, and were still fully functional when I included them in the car’s sale in April. I was very tempted to keep them, but they were an odd size and more hassle than I could bother with to get them out and reinstall the factory ones.

Yeah, I only have half the speakers , one pair, I originally got because the other pair were ovals, that like yours don’t fit that many places. Also I was hurridly ripping them out in a dealer parking lot, but that’s a whole other story

Back in the days when I cared about car audio, I loved CDT speakers. Very high quality, incredible SQ. Their mid-level speakers are about $300/pair, but their entry level is around $150/pair, I believe. I’m not sure if their quality is the same as it was a decade ago, but I wouldn’t hesitate to try them again.

I’ve heard the Alpine Type R’s are pretty damn good for the money (300 a set I think). Big money would be Focal.
I have Polk audio DB’s in my car and love them. either way, if you can afford / wire up a set of component’s you’ll be better. Compound if you can’t put the tweeter someplace else.
