Many pictures. It was a steal of a deal. I take pictures of our inventory for the dealership but as soon as I sat drove this car to our picture location I knew this had to be mine so I had no plans on uploading the pictures to the site for fear a customer came and got it before I did.
I’ll do an Oppo Review eventually.
Without further a due here are the pics that were never posted:

I saw his posts. I somewhat wish it was a manual but it’s an SUV so I’m fine with an Auto. Plus that now means I have reason to get a sports car with a MT. Gotta think positive.

There are some deals you just can’t pass up. 2 owner and driven less than 9600 miles a year. Yep it was time.

I like the I-6 in the X5. Had a neighbor that had two of them, one was a 4.8IS in red (his) and a 3.0L in black (hers) when it came time to get a newer one she took a new V8 and he kept the 3.0L.
I didn’t bother to ask if there was a lease involved, but I know he was annoyed by the overly sporty suspension. Preferred the everyday-friendly ride of the basic X5, I guess.
Good luck with it, they have aged well.

Used to work at a BMW for 3 years. I’ve seen the repair bills for ones equipped with the 4.4i and the 4.8is. I decided to just go with the unfiltered and time tested I-6. Honestly I probably would have never gotten it if the person that usually takes the pics was there yesterday. I liked the look of it but I felt the I-6 would have been terribly overpowered by the weight of the X5. One full throttle tilt up a incline on a decent stretch of road and all of those doubts changed.

very nice - congrats, (those first gens still look like proper BMWs!) Looks super clean. Love the shot of the motor.

I already love it. Feel many speeding tickets coming my way. Was wondering why everyone was driving so slow on the highway but when I glanced down I was doing 90 smh. I’m not much for being a badge snob but upgrading from my 95 Saturn I feel sorta important now. Already love this thing.

Must agree. All BMWs from the early 2000s have a timeless design. What sold me the most on this car was one small factor....All of the pixels are still there on the display screens and radio. I didn’t know a BMW of this vintage was capable of such.

Yeah it has plenty of torque and BMW has always known how to match a transmission with an engine.
I knew a guy with a similar bike rack to the one seen below, it made me seriously consider an X5 after i saw it.

Personally I feel the X5 is there best vehicle. Deliver decent driving dynamics, the ability to traverse mild trails, and is quite roomy. I’ve always loved them. I also like the second gen but there are far more issues and associated repair costs with them. Sometimes simplicity is key.

Congrats! These are surprisingly wonderful to ride in despite all the hate they get. My friend’s family has one and it’s a joy to ride in. Cornering is surprisingly flat for something so high up.

I took in one of those with the manual transmission on trade from a customer, and it was one of the strangest driving experiences. I later took one in with the automatic and it definitely suited the car better. I say this as a guy who will only buy a manual transmission car. Nice find, they’re really a bargain for what you get.

Clamshells are the best! Even has a cargo tray that you can lift and pull closer to you. Makes unloading things at the far back so much easier.

Not sure why people hate them. It is an awesome vehicle to drive and is so comfortable. Oh well they’re missing out.

Yep I’ve encountered one too as a porter for a BMW dealer. I love shifting my own gears but in anything larger than a sports sedan such as a 5 Series then I feel it’s better suited with an auto. Also will be awesome to have AWD come winter plus this gives me another reason to save for a second, sporty car with a MT.

100% agree. I normally dislike SAV/SUVs but I would make an exception for the X5, Cayenne and Macan. Somehow the Germans know how to make luxurious SUVs very well. People can hate on them all they want, I’d be so comfortable I wouldn’t care.

Thanks for that bit of insight. I’ll do one every two weeks. Oil is already done so just three to go.

also, do oil every 5000-7000mi not 15 like bmw says, it’ll keep the vanos free of gunk and carbon, look into the shark injector from turner motorsports, it’s worth it, look into some 20mm wheel spacers so the tires dont look so sucked in, ecs tuning has them. do you have rear air shocks or coil springs? because if you have coils you’re golden! also check out xoutpost.com lots of good info there!

Guess I’ll do is every 6,000. BMWs are none to burn through a quart of oil a few thousand miles so I think I can deal with that. My lovely (much sarcasm) 95 Saturn burned through almost 2 quarts per fill up. I’ll possibly budget some spacers. What is the shark injector for? So much valuable info tossed to me at once.

Must ask do you genuinely feel better driveability across the rev range with the shark? Also have you installed an AUX cable yet. Just saw a kit on ECS tuning. Think I may give it a go.

and on paper the shark injector doesnt look like much but drivability is better and the but dyno says its worth it, i noticed a big difference.

Yea peak HP and TQ gains I’ve read about were at most +11 and +11 but I read about the throttle response and other things it effects in a positive way. Maybe I’ll treat myself to it on Black Friday. For now have to get fluids flushed and other more important things. Was up on xoutpost.com rather late last night and found out much needed info. My X5 is equipped with the Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, of course the Sliding Cargo Floor and most importantly NO AIR SUSPENSION.

Any exhaust mod recommendations? It’s so quiet, wouldn’t mind opening it up more.

4.6 or 4.8 is exhaust i’ve seen recommended, also getting rid of the resonator for an x pipe. I havent done anything though. I like it quiet.
