I thought I would get this out of the way before the imgur crowd wakes up.

A lucky Thai couple have walked away from what could have been a very nasty road accident after they came off their motorcycle on a rain-slicked highway and slid for what looks to be at least 30 metres along the bitumen.
GoPro vision of the incident, which occurred yesterday, shows the pair riding along a mercifully quiet – but very wet – major road near Amphoe Sikhiu, central Thailand, in spitting rain.
The rider is believed to be a young man named Armkung Nagoya, whose pronounced love of superbikes was not, in this case, matched by his talent for riding them.
Armkung tries to make a correction but, his minute error cruelly magnified by the foul weather, loses control.
He and his girlfriend, Munthita Daungkhamdee, both come a cropper and begin sliding at speed down the road, the bike in tow.
Eventually the pair come to a halt, with Armkung gallantly attending to his missus before checking on his bike, which looks to have sustained more damage than the fortunate couple.
And here’s the lucky couple. This is what they look like without the bruises.

Man that’s a long slide. As someone who’s had only a short slide, it’s an odd feeling.

I had to watch it twice to figure out what was going on during the slide. Holy crap, that was an impressive move. Judging from the sounds, I think he took the hit into the barrier as well.

I crashed over 100kph in the rain and in the dry a few times (downhill skateboarding) and the crash itself and the slide is nothing really... what you might hit on the way, now that’s more problematic...

That water saved her ass, literally.
I wanted to share this with Mrs McMike, but we have a bike trip coming up this weekend. It’s better to not put this image in her head.
On second thought, I may not share it with her at all.

I was searching for more information on it, hoping to find the riders original upload, so I tried looking for images of “motorcycle accident in the rain.” I wanted to find something I could translate, or some message board post about it.
I was just reminded why I should also never, ever GIS anything that has the words “motorcycle” and “accident” in it again.
I don’t need those images in my head.

That’s what I meant... Once you’re on the ground, you cannot correct your trajectory whatsoever. Sometimes you see obstacles arrive from real far and just can’t do anything else other than brace for it... It can hurt, badly.

Luckily it looked like they were probably on bruised up a bit. I think the puddle near the end of the slide saved them from hitting the wall even harder.

Yeah, this is exactly what I want to think would happen if I fell off a motorcycle. Some bruises from the impact, maybe some soreness from a short tumble, then road rash.*
I don’t like the thought of sliding into inanimate objects like parked cars, trees, signposts, etc..
*I’m fully aware that more injuries can occur in the least dramatic of accidents. I know skin grafts, broken bones, and much, much more are waiting for us down there on that pavement, but I don’t like to think about it. The thought alone of a broken motorcycle, some road rash, angry wife that may or may not ride with me again, and a trip to the hospital (basically the best-case accident) is plenty to keep the thing upright.

Holy shit. I hate riding in the rain.
Me too. Alone, I will usually ride until my visibility gets bad, or until my raingear starts leaking (which is usually about the same time.)
I was watching it, and was wondering (as some of us probably were) if I would have done anything different. I would like to
think
I would have been going slower, but I don’t think his speed was that unsafe before he hit that water runoff.

Agreed, I had the same thought process. Although I don’t own rain gear and used to ride a sport bike (currently bikeless) so when the rain got to be much more than a drizzle I just went home or pulled over, usually. Though once I got stuck on 78 in the middle of PA near Lehigh Valley and just rode through it like a champ.

I can’t tell in the video why he had that bobble at all, was he avoiding something, did she grab his arm I really can’t tell what caused the initial steering input.

HUGE water runoff flowing from the left. He lost control the second he hit it.

He did a great job. I just wish he would have waited to pull on her helmet until she moved her head on her own.

Crazy how during the slide he still had the presence of mind to grab for his girlfriend and try to hold her to him to shield her from the worst of it. Looks like he lost his grip at the end when her helmet banged against the wall. I think I would have been too busy going “oh shit, oh shit!” Glad they're both ok.

She gestured to one of her legs for a second when he was asking her if she's ok. I'm guessing the bike bumped her there. Totally unreal to see his limp legs out in front of him as the slide begins, then he just reaches out and grabs her and pulls her towards him.
