After 8 years of my farts and spilled food my car is getting a little stale. What are your recommendations for freshening up the interior? Do you clean up the upholstery and call that good enough or do you mask it up with a car freshener or both even? What kind of freshener/flavor do you use?

The new car smell vent sticks. It doesn’t smell like new car, but they still smell great.

No idea what scent it is though. It’s kinda like a New Car Smell trees, but not exactly.

Right now I’m sporting a unique fragrance of my own invention that is 1 part wheel bearing grease, 2 parts smashed goldfish crackers with just a hint of mountain dew.

I don’t. I keep my car very clean and it smells like leather and car. Thats how it should be. Air “fresheners” make me want to gag!

These ones by Refresh. I prefer the circular ones more. It’s a dual scent: ‘new car smell’ and ‘cool breeze.’

It doesn’t actually smell like new car at all (oh how I wish), but it’s the only one I’ve found in that scent that doesn’t smell atrocious. And I like the cool breeze, but it’s a little too strong by itself.

And yeah... generally, cleaning your car out, maybe giving it a once-over with some upholstery cleaner, will help a lot more than just masking a bad smell with a freshener.

My honest recommendation? Clean it. Shampoo the upholstery if you need to.

I’m admittedly biased, being a former detailer who also happens to hate the smell of most air fresheners. Still, a good cleaning will not only make your car smell better, but also look and feel better and even last longer.

Otherwise, Febreze Auto works & smells OK.

Oh I see. How do you have Estonia as a scent?

I consider my farts, which I refer to as Eau de Manwich, to be the air freshener...

Yea I can’t find anything online that would say what scent it is. I know it’s made in Finland, under license from the US company, and all I can find online is some Finns discussing the scent. They think it probably smells like Vodka and BO, but that’s biased, as the only reasons Finns visit Estonia is to go on weekend benders, after which they no doubt smell like Vodka and BO.. To me it seems like it’s a mix between the standard New Car Smell, with a bit of Vanilla but not as sweet, and a bit of Pine, but not as Christmasy. In general it’s not as overbearing as some of the others tend to be.

But yea, when the smell is gone, it doubles as a national pride ornament too.

Oh, and I suppose I also use the little smelly stickers that the interior detail people put under your seat.

I stick one of those baking soda boxes with the vent on the side either under the seat or in the door handle. I hate smelly stuff.

I’ve fallen in love with this stuff.

My truck typically has Eau de Labrador. This and regular cleanings keep things relatively respectable.

Pay for your local detailing shop to do it, or get a Bissell Little Green Machine. Apparently, the little Bissell is the cat’s ass. I don’t know why I haven’t bought one yet.

Perfect, borrow your mom’s. Moms love when their kids clean shit, even if their kids are adults and they’re cleaning their own shit.

Pour out an ounce of gear oil under your seat, and all those unpleasant odours will be gone forever. Of course you’ll have to get used to the smell of gear oil, which you won’t... ever.

Haha gear oil will mask the smell of everything. Even the smell of the vomit that is spewed because of the gear oil

I agree, the refresh brand is about all I can tolerate. I have hated air fresheners since I was little. They give me headaches. But the Refresh ones I am OK with. I have the ones that slide into the air vent called vent sticks. It is nice because having the air on propels the fresh scent around as soon as you turn the vehicle on. but it isn’t overwhelming
