Right?
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:14 |

Yeah
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:15 |

Not if a bunch are open and there's room to pull in straight...
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:16 |

unless it is like 3 open spaces and I can just swoop into the front one.

Unless I’m in a prototype ‘40s Cadillac.

Is that the spare tire?
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:17 |

For the most part yes. I do pull in when i go to a town next to me because their parking spots are big enough to put 2 scion xb’s in one..
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:17 |

Good.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:18 |

I reverse into most spots, besides angled, because it allows me to put my driver door on the same side as someone else’s driver door and I can do us both a favor by giving a little more space.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:18 |

If a bunch are open I understand, the getaway will still be quick.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:18 |

What if other people park there afterwards?
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:19 |

No way

![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:24 |

Then I get out as usual. The end result is the same, as far as where I am in the parking spot.

I grew up in a small town and after my driving test I barely ever had to parallel park. Then I moved to a big city and the skill became essential. It wasn’t until I was reminded to back in that I really got the hang of it again. So much easier. Line your rear tire up to the car’s rear bumper, cut the wheel all the way, ease in.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:31 |

The parallel parking on my small town drivers test involved pulling into a spot that had no cars behind it, so you could just pull straight in (though a classmate was failed for rubbing the curb). I didn’t have to do real parallel parking at all until half-way through junior year of college, and even then I normally cheated and used places where there were two or three spots (just to get in, I didn’t block spots for people who were better parkers).

....yes? dot-dot-dot
Why?
Actually, this is how I park on the daily...
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:34 |

Not in my MR2. No need. Start out pointing in the opposite direction you want to be parked pointed in, accelerate in a straight line, lift and give a tiny bit of input at the same time. The car will be backwards against the kerb before you know it!
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:48 |
|
Unless there is more than 1 car length, you always back in.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 11:48 |
|
If you don’t reverse, you will end up with the front right tire up the curb in a narrow parking spot..

How I parallel park

Not the only one of those ever made, actually. Somebody did it with a Packard, too.

You can’t NOT maneuver (reverse and forwards) into a spot at least 5 times in NY.

Yep, spare tire.

I like to slightly swoop into and out of it first so I’m already at an angle when I start backing in. It’s completely unnecessary, but it gets the point across to anyone following me so that they’ll give me room. Usually.

Yes

Wow, I had no idea such a thing existed. Gotta love crazy hydraulic systems on old cars. That Packard is a fine looking car, too.

Spare tire with a hub cap!

100% agree.

That’s fine.

At the end I voluntarily blinked to its lights. I might have a problem
![]() 09/14/2015 at 12:27 |

Of course. Letting ones lugs be seen exposed, even on the spare while parking, would be Letting The Side Down.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 12:28 |

I do that at mall/supermarket parking lots when there are multiple cars around.

Someone went head first into a parking spot today when I was driving to work, I was perplexed.

The little adjustments he makes. I like.

I agree, someone decided to go head first into a parking stop today when I was driving to the office. Who does that in a crowded city?
![]() 09/14/2015 at 12:33 |

Lift-off overpark.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 12:33 |

That’s in poor taste, really.

How did you manage to get your car under the Jeep?

This is why I went for an MX-5

Good lord, I want to add 200hp to my Civic to pull that off.
But I won’t add those skirts and paint it orange. lol.
I like it sleeper.

Haha got to leave room so the next guy can get out
![]() 09/14/2015 at 12:49 |

Too many cars, too little parking spots.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 12:51 |
|
Just like here then. How many cars in NYC?
In São Paulo we are at 5,63 million.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 12:56 |
|
Yep. And as much as possible, I reverse into perpendicular spots as well. Makes for a much safer exit.
![]() 09/14/2015 at 12:57 |
|
Me too, always reverse into perpendicular spots, quick getaways are more important and worth a little more effort.

I can’t find anything from Google, so I don’t know. But the size of your city is almost twice as big.

My dad (when he was in college) was rear parking, after a 12-hour shift in deep mining with explosives when some wise-ass tried to pull that off (nose dive parking). He asked politely to this fella to leave him the parking spot, to what this guy replied something in a rough translation akin to “The world belongs to the smarts”.
Let’s say that that guy got off the car through the window pulled by his collar. And his car got the roof bashed in 4 inches. And it was no thin sheet car, it was a Beetle.
My father says he can’t remember exactly what he said to the guy, but he promptly got back into the Beetle, head tilted to the left due the roof crushed in, backed off, and vanished quickly.
To this day, he said it was the stupidest thing he could ever do, because he could’ve been shot. The fact that my dad gets beet-red when angry surely helped the guy’s decision to leave the situation as it is.
My mom recalls when someone else did a similar thing on her college. Except the other guy was unfazed, and the parking lot was on top of a steep hill, like those teen movies. After the wise-ass left, he just put in 1st gear, and pushed.

I reverse to parallel park, but I also back in to most spaces. Having the trailing wheels steer is always easier, and it makes it safer and easier to exit the space.
