I’ve never really wanted one until I came across this: a 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero wagon. Only one crumby photo and the likelihood that the engine is junk, but I want it so bad.
Terrible idea right?!

Update from the seller:
“I’ll check the mileage when I get home. The engine started misfiring really bad. I quit driving it because I didn’t want to make it worse. Since it’s been sitting the battery has died as well. A mechanic told me tht one of the cylinders had something wrong with it. “
Still a bad idea, right guys?

Terrible idea since the engine is toast, but you like it because it’s a luxury wagon!
If you find one with a good engine, be sure to change the oil frequently and use synthetic.

I have a non aero and it’s pretty nice. I would hold out for a manual. It’s not rare to see them for under 1k. I bought mine for $400.

Yeah I read that a combination of things leads to the sludge death, like location of the cat to the sump, type of oil, type of PCV and extended time between oil changes

Good point, didn't even notice them saying this was auto when they gave so little info in the first place

Don’t do it man!
I’m no Big City Tavarish but... I’ve done a few engine swaps in my time. That is most likely a Hemorrhoid waiting to happen. The CL ad speaks for itself.

And it’s Red. I’d be tempted too.
There’s more to the story though.

That sir is not an Aero, why? Because it missing the bodykit and why would they replace Aero alloys with 15” from a 9-3 linear?

Well in our area under $4K gets you a running 9-5 automatic Aero from the same generation, and considering the costs of an engine swap I would say hold out until you find one...

It’s only missing the front lip, it still has the side skirts. Most Aeros I see in my area have damaged or missing lips. The wheels are actually the later 16” Linear wheels, so they fit over the Aero brakes. It probably had the BBS wheel option and the finish started peeling so the owner tossed some cheap wheels on it.

That description could mean anything. I just bought another 9-5 Aero in “non-running” condition. I towed it home and it wouldn’t start with one key, so I tried the other and it fired right up. The first key just wasn’t recognized by the anti theft system.
