Yeah, I’m sure scooping Vomit out of the back of a Tesla is going to be fun.

Horrible Police cars....

Yeah probably would suck, probably for special events. Still kinda cool.

A lot of police departments are reluctant to get rid of their crown vics.

I’ll trade my P71 for this if they want...

...so harder or easier to flip over after a LA county riot than a crown vic/charger/impala/caprice?

And better at stopping small arms fire? Or are they only going to deploy it in the ritzy neighborhoods?

Surprised they got this through the political minefield. Where was Ford and Chevy pushing their SUV Hybrids?

Might be harder to flip, battery’s are heavy. But yeah probably reserved for ritzy neighborhoods/ special events.

The future is bankrupt cities spending 6 figures on patrol cars with a 120mph top speed and whatever range they get with the AC running for a 9 hour shift? Well at least it’s not a FWD Impala.

More on this. Are you saying that vomiting is more likely to occur in a Tesla, or that, given a relatively consistent probability of a vomiting event, cleaning a Tesla is more difficult?

Also, is vomit cleanup a primary consideration for police vehicle use? If so, I can’t imagine the massive fucking trucks that are used by some in my local force are much better. They are fancy as fuck, at least when stock. Just trying to understand the “horrible” assessment.

Yes, with carpet and lots of fancy soft touch materials and crevices it IS inevitably going to be harder.

And vomit is a common occurrence in police cars. Along with shit, blood, piss and various other bodily fluids. That’s why they come with vinyl backseats and plastic floors.

Kinja'd!!! DrJohannVegas > jkm7680
09/12/2015 at 11:49

Well, maybe Tesla will provide those clear plastic covers like grandma and grandpa used to keep on the sofa at home.

Still, they’re nowhere durable enough for police use.

Kinja'd!!! DrJohannVegas > jkm7680

Kinja'd!!!0

I get where you are coming from, but: 1) The same thing was said about Prisuses and Camry Hybrids in taxi duty, 2) Part of what makes cop cars durable is consistent monitoring and maintenance, 3) I expect this will have a different duty cycle than many units.

I understand saying you don’t expect them to be durable enough, but there’s not enough data to say that with confidence.

Kinja'd!!! jkm7680 > DrJohannVegas

Kinja'd!!!0

I’d say they’d have a life cycle of around 30,000 miles. Some cars just aren’t good for it. Police cars are beat on...... hard. They’re idled hours every day, they have to have the clearance to hop curbs and drive at high speeds for hours daily. Not even including being mobile offices that have to include an officer, his duty belt, masses of equipment and a cage.

The Tesla is a mid sized luxury sedan, not a purpose built and engineered car. There is more than enough data to prove that they won’t live up to standards.
