My !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! finally arrived yesterday evening! It was too dark to take any usable pictures so I just snapped a few before leaving to work this morning. Sorry for the crappy parking job, we had to push it into that spot yesterday evening and didn’t wanna block the road for too long.
I had a quick look over the car yesterday to get a better idea of what I’ve actually bought. I think its more or less what I have expected: Very dirty, with a bit of rust (for some reason the passenger side front wheel arch is rusty as hell while the others are perfectly fine), needing a lot of tlc. Most bushings will need replacing, same as the brakes, springs (shock absorbers and a few suspension components probably as well) and a few other things like tires, filters and so on.
The interior is in great condition with the exception of a wet carpet on the passenger side and very mouldy oh-shit handles (no idea why they are and the rest of the interior is fine). It didn’t come with a battery and theres a spare on the back at the moment. I’ll check the fluids and see if I can start it up this weekend, then I’ll probably start making a list of things to get a better overview of what needs doing in the next few months to get it back on the road.
I’ll take some more photos later today and keep Oppo updated!

I guess an Olds in Europe is a bigger deal than I thought. Here in the states it wouldn’t be worth it to overhaul an Aurora. Then again I would buy the first crappt Peugeot I could find and that’s probably seen as not worth it to restore.

That’s the thing, a value of a car can be vastly different from country to country, or even from person to person. A car that’s barely more than a pile of scrap in one country can be worth thousands in others. The Aurora wouldn’t exactly be worth much to most here in the Uk either, mainly because people don’t see it as a classic (and its expensive to run). I see a incredibly unique car that is worth the time and money.

Wonder if this is somehow related. You probably have some problems with water ingress on that side of the car and maybe that’s accelerating the formation of rust in that area.
Anyway, nice purchase! Hope you can really turn this car around.
When are you posting more updates on that Lincoln story?

Great car, man. I’ve always had mad love for Auroras. Especially the first-gen.
Welcome to Oldsmobile ownership!

Maybe, even though the rust is on top of the wheel arch where water wouldn’t reach to. I do fear that the wet footwell might have been there for quite a while and corroded the floor pan. Underside looked fine yesterday night though.
I should post another Lincoln update soon. Its just that it usually takes quite a lot of time to write. There lots to write about after all. :)

Thanks! You can only call yourself a real Jalop if you own a car of a dead make, right?

Well... I’ve owned two Nissans, two Mazdas, nine Volvos, a Fiat and an Oldsmobile, so far...

As soon as I give my Cutlass to TheVancen, all Oldsmobile hell breaks loose on oppo. It makes me sad and happy at the same time.

Wasn't the first generation Aurora V8 only?

4.0l Northstar V8. You could only get a 3.5l V6 as base engine in the smaller 2nd gen.

Not sure. I liked they took some styling cues from the 48 88, but didn't care too much because it's wrong wheel drive.

Have fun! This is what being an enthusiast us all about, enjoying cars. Id bet the land barges that are a dime a dozen over here would be pretty cool overy there. Localy I can usually pickup 60s or 70s metal with limited rust for about $2500 usd.

When it comes to cars built pre-’85: As long as it looks traditionally American, it sells. No matter what it is.
