So, Windows Movie Maker no longer supports .MOV videos, and Quicktime will only let me edit them if I pay $30... What’s a good free (or at least under 5 bucks) program to trim and compile my dashcam videos?
Apple and Microsoft really need to stop all this exclusive BS. Nobody’s going to buy one of each, and if my PC can work with Mac files, then I’ll be less likely to buy a Mac instead next time. And vice-versa. It’s only losing customers, not keeping them.

Depends on how much spare time you have. I’m 90% certain that you can get Adobe Media Encoder for free (you would have to install some trial of something else, but could uninstall everything but Media Encoder without having a licensing problem). You can use Media Encoder to cut videos down and change the file format to something you can use in WMM if that’s a workaround you can live with. For files that Media Encoder can’t work with, I’ve had some “rough around the edges” success with VLC and Handbrake as far as converting .MOV to other formats. AVI format is probably the most frustrating though, count your blessings.
If only EssExTee could be so grossly incandescent
