By that, I mean do you have one favorite episode of a particular tv series that is your favorite out of ALL of television? I do.
“In the Pale Moonlight” is a 6th season episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and it’s my single favorite hour of television ever produced. It perfectly encompasses what the series is, and is well-written and superbly acted. If you’re not familiar with the series, basically the Federation and the Klingons are in a war against an empire from across the galaxy called the Dominion, and they’re losing big. The Romulans signed a non-aggression pact with the Dominion, but Captain Sisko wants to bring them into the war on their side. The episode is a Captain’s log, where he tries to explain how events unfolded. It’s engrossing, and in many ways is the total opposite of Gene Roddenberry’s vision. But it’s fantastic. Deep Space Nine is such an underrated series, but it has an amazingly deep cast of talented actors. If you haven’t watched it, I recommend giving it a shot. All seven seasons are on Netflix.
So, is there an episode ofa series that is your favorite out of all tv?

The final episode of Luther was damn good. Excitement, intensity, satisfaction, it had it all.

Too difficult to decide. It would definitely be from one of the Trek’s. The good ones, not Voyager or Enterprise.

I’d say the Top Gear Vietnam Special. Easily the best Top Gear, and perhaps the best example for what “non-scripted” Television should be.

I would have to say the final episode of Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. It’s a beautiful and heart wrenching finale in which the antagonist is brought to desperate and heart wrenchingly hopeless final stand against the hero. The setting of the desolate forest while a thunderstorm rages in the background leaves the viewer with the same feeling of desperation as the antagonist, leaving the question, if just for a moment, were we truly right for rooting for the good guys?

Do miniseries count? If so, then my favorite is the episode “Spider” from the HBO miniseries From The Earth To The Moon. Here’s a clip:

DS9 gets hated on by people who haven’t seen it, but it has much more complex characters than most of the other series.
(I love Star Trek, and have watched them all)

The opening scene of The Newsroom is an honest look at American Exceptionalism and how it doesn’t really exist. Really hit me hard and completely changed how I talk about politics with other people.

Voyager was not the best, but it had its moments. “Message in a Bottle” was great, and I liked “the Omega Directive” too.

Love this one, but I’m torn between it and the Britcar episode. I could watch them both on repeat.
And I tried to star your post but new kinja or new mobile version or something...nothing is working.

Divided We Fall from Justice League Unlimited. The whole season was mind-numbingly good and the big speech by Green Arrow after the climatic battle is very well written.

I’m being overly harsh on them. They both had their share of good episodes, but are lacking in some undefinable qualities which the others had.

yeah - I was going to say “End of Time” and “Vincent and the Doctor” form Dr. Who. I’m not a big Dr. Who fan, but a few of those David Tenant and first season Matt Smith episodes were just genius.

My first thought was Breaking Bad season 3 Finale “Full Measure”. That last scene: haunting. Also in the running has to be one of several takedown episodes of Luther (the twin brothers, the god-complex guy trying to gas the kids, saving Mary and Alice). Then there’s Dexter. Season 4 is pretty much perfect, the finale being probably the best episode of the whole series. Honorable mention has to go to the “British Invasion” episode in season 2.

Definitely good ones. I picked “blink” because I think it does a fantastic job of getting the blood pumping and emotions cranked up while balancing scary and fun. I’m definitely a doctor who fan, David Tenant is my favorite.

Firefly. Favorite TV Show EVAR.
‘Our Mrs. Reynolds’, although it is a hard choice, all fourteen (yes, 14) episodes are absolutely freakin’ fantastic.
But ‘Our Mrs. Reynolds’ has it all.
Malcolm Reynolds threatening someone in a pretty floral bonnet.
Drunk inadvertent matrimony.
Jayne Cobb willing to trade his very favorite gun, he calls her Vera.
Shepherd Book threatening Mal with the prospect of going to The Special Hell, reserved for child molesters, and those who talk in the theater.
Good Bible, and Good Myth, and good advice to live, or at least stay alive by. After all, you have the right same as anyone to live and try to kill people, er, at least ones that try to kill you.
And Christina Hendricks in her birthday suit, as she transitions from deceptively meek and subservient, to a stone cold
But poor Inara... she just bumped her head...

I was going to try and pick one out of Babylon 5, which is still my favorite science-fiction television serial. but no single episode in that series is amazing; the show was amazing in how all of its episodes worked into and off of each other. The show was amazing for its character interactions and development. In general, I think it was more successful as a story than Deep Space 9, which suffered from a complete lack of gravity through its entire run and never quite connected all the dots. The Prophets of Bajor thread was particularly awful and never got better.
So, my pick?
“Bastogne,” from Band of Brothers . The choice to tell that story from the medic’s perspective was genius, allowing what was a “hurry up and wait” type of event to move along. You felt the suspense, you felt the elation at surviving, you felt the grief when the men were mangled or bleeding out five feet in front of the main cast. And, even when you’ve seen the series and know what happens, the episode does not lose potency.
